“Great hotel for the money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed here 3 times over the past 8 years. Always a fun experience! Although not a 5 star hotel, the hotel is very clean and comfortable. The restaurant is also very good, especially for an evening meal at the end of a long day of sightseeing. Great value for the price!

We spent 3 nights in Weimar on the Markplatz and wanted to spend another few in the countryside. We were very lucky as we were there on 3 lovely fall days and thoroughly enjoyed afternoons sitting on the huge lawn underneath fruit trees with the whole countryside spread out before us. This was the best part of our experience and unfortunately you can't count on such idyllic weather.

We had a suite with two medium-sized rooms and a bathroom with separate shower, jacuzzi bath, and a window. Separate room for the toilet. But this size room is unusual, and most seemed very small from what I could tell. Room was comfortably furnished but no particular decor. There is no lounge except for the few chairs that line the long, narrow entrance with Reception at one end.

The dining room is divided into two: a romantically lit area without windows decorated in red and a room across the hall, light and airy with windows. What was odd was that a waiter would wait on tables in both rooms and so would disappear for long periods of time. We thought the hotel short staffed while we were there. We had to wait until mid-afternoon on one day to have our room made up because there was only one cleaner on duty. There was no offer of help with luggage, but we could borrow a cart from the front entry. Dining room service was slow even by German standards. The only service we thought good was from all of the people who staffed Reception during our 3-day stay. One woman researched how to best send our luggage to our next stop and found a cheap and reliable service for us (Hermes).

I would give the hotel a "very good" were it not for our dissatisfaction with the food. Breakfast buffets were OK with fresh fruit, boiled eggs, lots of meats. But our two lunch and two dinners were all unsatisfactory in one way or another. Meats were not top quality, and veal was sauteed at too low a temperature and so was tough. Local foods were greasy. The salad with chicken strips was just iceberg lettuce with slices of white meat. There was a problem with the stove and so one noon we could only have cold food or soup. I did like the cold cucumber soup, but my husband's tomato soup was way too salty. We never saw a snack menu, and the lunch and dinner menus were the same.

Our third day we gave up and took the local bus into Weimar to eat. The hotel is only a couple of kilometers from the railway station so a cab ride to the hotel isn't expensive. We walked 10 minutes to the local bus stop which takes 20 minutes to the edge of the old town in Weimar. But if you want to really experience Weimar, it's better to stay in town.

Most of the staff spoke no English and the menus were in German. But the various women who staffed Reception spoke from good to excellent English.

We enjoyed our stay, but I can't imagine staying here in the dead of winter or on a day of pouring rain. The hotel has a new conference center and caters to various groups, but the conference rooms are separate from there individual travelers eat.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor have lower ceilings and a dormer window, so they tend to feel enclosed. T...

We stayed here for two nights during a vacation traveling by car through Germany and Austria. The hotel (with free parking) is quite far out of town, so if you don't want to drive out for dinner, the hotel's restaurant is your only option. Fortunately it's quite good - it offers local specialties at good value. The fact that locals often seem to reserve a table here confirms this. Breakfast is also good - a large buffet with lots of things to choose from, including local specialties such as "Sülze". The room does not offer that much value for its money. It's small and comparable to a budget motel room (or European chains like Ibis). The interior of the rooms and most of the building seem to inspired by British hotels. The free wifi didn't work in our room - we had to connect to the web in the reception area.
If the weather is nice, you can enjoy the terraces outside - also for dinner and breakfast.

Room Tip: I expect the rooms facing Weimar on the second floor (or higher if it exists at all) have the best v...

We stayed here for a weekend of culture (Bauhaus, Goethe and Buchenwald ) and enjoyed our stay here very much. The service was friendly, the rooms comfortable and ultra clean. The restaurant was very good. We even drank a local wine although you always think of Thuringia as being a beer drinking area. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it warmly.

Good location, fair price, close to the city, and good cycle paths from the hotel.

We like to stay in Romantik Hotels. We picked this because we found nice reviews and we know two other Hotels in Weimar already. Welcome staff and service very friendly. We booked a biger room (Tiefurt) and would recommend to do this. Baby Bed free of charge for our 3 year old. Room was very clean. Bathroom need a renovation in the future, but still ok! Breakfast very good. We also had Dinner at the Hotel, it was ok but not special. But very good local wine selection. The Hotel is 5 minutes by car from the city and you need a car to go there. Value for the price very good!

Room Tip: Book a Tiefurt room and

This hotel a little outside the city center of Weimar - one needs a car! - is really that what you call a "romantic hotel" aswell by its situtaion in the middle of the vineyards with a marvellous view on Weimar and its surroundings, as for the extremely cosy rooms and the friendliness of the staff.

Unfortunately - I had a top room booked - the bath does not go with the rest of the amrvellous rooms: the bathroom is oldfashioned (shower with an aluminium and plastic door) and has NO comfort at all: such a pity!
