I found this wonderful B&B on the Erfurt Tourism website, they also organised our 2 night stay for me with great prompt service. Villa am Park is just outside the city centre, which for us is not a problem, if you are arriving by car there is plenty of off street parking, but we arrived into Erfurt by train from Berlin. We caught the local tram around to Gothaer Platz station as recommended by the B&B owners to do on their website. Tip: as you leave the main train station make your way out the station up to street level where you will see the various trams coming in. http://www.villa-am-park-erfurt.de
It is a 15 minute trip then a one minute walk to the B&B. We were greeted by a lovely young German lady who spoke great English, shown our room, breakfast/guest meals room and given some touristic advise. There is an honour bar in the meals room for beer and wine at very good rates. There are 4 guests room in the main house on the first floor of the three storey house, there is also a self contained apartment at the back of the house which overlooks their garden. The owners live on the upper two floors with their 2 young sons, you at no time feel that you are intruding in their lives or them in yours.
Our room was the largest room of our trip, it was very clean, good natural lighting, bathroom, heating, blinds and curtains on the windows. Our room looked out on the park that the house faces, there was absolutely no noise from the road in the distance, the room was so lovely and quiet at night, we always had a great nights sleep.
Breakfast is not included in the room price but for 5 euros each it is very inexpensive and plentiful. Breakfast is the usual continental fare: fruit, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses, bread, cereals, juice, tea/coffee, boiled eggs etc. as well as great conversations with the lady owner, and we had many over our stay. We felt pleased to be introduced to her children as they had just been learning about Australia at school, where we are from.
The easy walk into Erfurt takes around 15 minutes, there is plenty of things to see, we especially enjoyed a hot chocolate on the Kramerbrucke (Merchant's Bridge) as recommended by the B&B. At night we would walk back in for our evening meals, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Zur Borse which faces onto the square at the far end of the Kramerbrucke from the B&B.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa am Park, we felt at home and one of the family even in our short stay, and it is so reasonably priced. On our second day the B&B was being photographed for an article in a German magazine, I think it had won some sort of hospitality award recently. On the morning of our departure we were both disappointed to leave, 2 nights was too short, if ever we should find ourselves back in Erfurt, we would not hesitate to stay here again, maybe stay longer in the back apartment.
