My husband i I have stayed at the Maritim Strandhotel several times and love it. Also this time we got our favourit room at 11 th floor. A nice corner room with at stunning view - nice watching the ships going out and in. There is a large balcony. The room has a nice sitting group and the table was laid and there was a plate of different fruits. Nice. The room was very clean but a bit outdated. The bathroom however is new and modern with lots of nice amenities. And the breakfast - one of the best we have ever tasted. Nice dinner in the pub restaurant. The staff is friendly and nice. I simply love the little boutique in the reception area, I find something to buy every time. We love to come back.

Upgraded to a "Superior" room on 9th floor. Stunning view overlooking sailing ship 'Passat' and river mouth. Check-in was smooth although I couldn't understand why I couldn't park outside the hotel instead of the underground garage. (I parked there anyway!) Really nice large, airy, clean room with above mentioned view from balcony. All was fine with the large, clean bathroom as well except that the toilet ran very slightly all the time (Didn't bother me but mentioned it when checking out)
Breakfast in restaurant was 1st class with huge choice of hot and cold dishes much more than your standard ham & cheese selections

Room Tip: East side faces the estuary if interested in shipping

Travemunde are a hidden gem for many outside Germany and its a shame. Nice town and in the summer it must be packed with people. The hotel are very high, so cant miss it and we had a good welcome. We got a complimentary upgrade - always a good thing - and got a good room with a nice view. The breakfast are well huge and with a view over the beach so dont miss that one.
Some of the decor are a bit 70's but that kind off brings charm for us rather then drag things down.

Well the old girl is desperate for renovation and that is not reflected in the overpriced charges for a room here. First of all the view is magnificent which ever side you are on, we faced the Trave and watched the ships go out and the view to Lubeck in the distance. It is a beautiful harbour and the hotel sits right on the mouth of the river.
The hotel is tired inside and out, the pool and sauna area is bordering on a health hazard and the grounds outside are in the middle of earthworks that seem to have stopped and now resemble a 4wd track. We saw several people stumble and one elderly lady fall on the trip to the carpark. Inside is 70s chic waiting to become fashionable again, the place is clean although it is always difficult to tell when everything is brown and beige.
This place needs a huge injection of money to bring it back to its glory, I won't come back here as there is better places to stay in Travemunde.

Room Tip: rooms on the south side get the river view and the noise of the ships leaving at all times of the da...

The view from the rooms in the upper levels is stunning. You see the whole beach and ocean. The rooms are nice and clean, but desperatly need a renovation. The interior design dates back to the 80s and is not up to modern day standards. Nevertheless, it´s an OK hotel to stay for a vaction.
After some reviews here I expected the breakfast buffet to be quite good but found it to be nothing special and nothing more than any other hotel breakfast.

The situation of the hotel could not be better - directly on the sea front with magnificent views overlooking the river entrance and the beach. Built in 1976 and now looking it!!! A VERY tired hotel which requires an uplift to retain its 4 star classification. The pool area is certainly poor and the sauna area dirty!! I stayed on the 12th floor and the corridor carpet was probably laid in the 1970s and looks it. The saving grace however is the staff who made us very welcome and the restaurant which was excellent on half board rates.

Have just returned from a 3 day break to Lubeck. The town is great, with wonderful architecture, churches and the seasonal Christmas markets. Stayed in Travemunde, which is 20 minutes by train from Lubeck at the Maritim Strandhotel and thought it was excellent value for money. The rooms were modern, spacious, very clean and we had a fabulous view of the harbour. The staff were helpful and very courteous. The buffet ( both evening and breakfast ) offered a fantastic choice of well presented food. We would definitely stay here again.
