We (2 adults, 2 children) have been to Astor for a few nights during the Easter holidays. Mainly, the hotel was fine. Very nice room, good variable and nourishing breakfast.

There was a small trouble with the toilet paper, as the new roll stayed by the shower and got thoroughly wet and dirty (this particular spot was seldom cleaned), so it was barely usable when we needed to change the paper in the night. It wasn't changed next morning, so I had to request and soon after got a new roll.

The pillows were too soft for our taste, so sleeping wasn't the best there is.

Note. The hotel doesn't have an own restaurant. There is a number of eating places nearby, but we had to take a stroll to get a decent dinner.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 9-th floor - good view.

Hotel's prime attribute is its central location, a 10 minute walk from both the central bus station and the central train station. Another attribute is its excellent breakfast in a top floor room with a superb view. Staff all spoke English and were very accommodating. Rooms are nothing special though I was pleased with the size of my my bathroom. Many good restaurants in the immediate vicinity. A good choice for a short business visit.

We booked a double-room in this hotel via Deutsche Bahn (maybe they should stick to trains...). The "double" room was actually a twin room. And one of the beds was actually a couch !!! The couch was hard, and one could drown in the softness of the bed. Weird blue stains on the kitchen and red stains on one of the towels (please don't look under the bed...). The room was small (bathroom sized) and very warm even though it was only 20c outside (no airco). As a whole the hotel seems very outdated. The breakfast was mediocre. The only positive things about the hotel was free internet (to type this review) and the staff who were doing a great job; I feel sorry that that they have to run this place; I guess they have to deal a lot with unhappy customers.

As you can see, the photos I took of my actual room looks nothing like the rooms they show on website. Parking they offered me is not actually at the hotel either, but at Karstadt somewhere else. Safe and ok when you find it, and lucky for me I speak some german. Gate was not open, and had to call central to get in. Apparently you can order one of few places at hotel beforehand, but I guess you have to call for this.

Have stayed at Conti Hansa for a fraction more, and recommend this. At Conti Hansa you will sleep so well that you can get up in time to enjoy the breakfast, and the towels are so thick that Astors seem like greyish napkins.

But beauty is not all. Hotels main task is to provide a good nights sleep. Astor did not that either.

I got an ugly, noisy and hot room - and the only thing three stars was the price. The whole thing remined me of my stays in dingy parts of the former soviet union.. with the cheap wood, hot air, toilet paper on wc for the lack of holder, curtain partly not hanging up, colour combinations of browns, stains and blue, and dusty small box TV with half of the channels in German, the other half a blizzard of static.

Room on the 8th floor of the Astor. Faced heavily trafficked street, and also something that sounded like some metal works. Opened window for a gasp of fresh air, just to be deafened. After closing window, air hottened to the unbearable in minutes. So during the night i got up to change between discomforts a few times.

Cheap wooden door to hall made me part of other peoples conversations, argues and so on at any time of day.

So, in short, choose a different hotel. Good part: People nice, spoke english. Bar on tenth floor with views of town.

Great views from the top floor breakfast room. Best breakfast selection ever including choice of fresh fruit and speciality coffee's. Comfortable room with nice view 's over the town and fjord. All in good value for the price and friendly staff. Also free wi-fi.
