One of the most memorable places we visited on a month-long holiday in July 2011. This is a very simple, but well-maintained memorial, but this is not what makes it so captivating. I truly had no idea as to how many peopple lost their lives at sea during the wars, and to see the walls of the memorial marked with small boats and submarines indicating the number of ships that were sunk took my breath away.
The view from the top is well-worth the ride up in the somewhat scary lift.
