“Great History”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Standing high above Meissen it begs to be explored. Access is up winding cobbled narrow streets. The Castle has been and is being restored completely and faithfully with the work of skilled artisans obvious. As the home of and factory of Meissen china until the 1860s, it provides a comprehensive explanation of how the brand was brought into existence as well as showing off examples dating back as far as 1720. Each floor is well serviced by a lift with the soarong arches somtime s plain and sometimes decorated. Well worth the visit.

“Amazing castle!!”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Amazing castle. When I entered I wasn’t expecting much but was really surprise as soon as I opened the door and saw the amazing entry hall.
The entry ticket doesn’t cover for the photos; you need to pay an extra 2 euros but it really worth the extra money.
The audioguide is really informative, and yes, after a while it gets to much informative but it is precious to tell you the history of the castle.
Some rooms have nice painted walls and nice floors. Others are emptier but all of them have something interesting to teach you. A must see if you are in Meissen.

“Perhaps too much detail”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

This castle is certainly worth a visit, although it should be kept in mind that substantial parts of the restored building, plus the works of art & furniture, date from the 19th century. It costs €8 per person to get the little sound player (choice of languages) which will guide you around this extensive historic building. The concept of taking you step by step through the property, with detailed explanations of everything, is good, but after a while we got tired of having to listen to so much historical detail. It was a cool & showery day, so we didn't mind being indoors. The views over the river & the town are spectacular from the castle hill.

“Quality Porcelain But Over Priced”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

This visit was part of a Viking river cruise. While it is of some interest to see how the porcelain is made the real focus of the visit is to separate the visitor from his or her money. Meissen
Porcelain is good but the price is over the top. You would do better to look in the shops of the big cities to get a better price. Nice to look at but you will get your fingers burnt at the cash out. You have been warned.

“Amazing are architecture”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

If you are anywhere near here, definitely do this tour. The style and construction was some of the best of it's day. I'd compare this to the Palaise Garnier in Paris, just a different time and place.
