Owner description: This famous restaurant, established in the 16th century, was immortalized in Goethe's "Faust."

This is a 'fancy' restaurant which has little if anything to do with the history you may be searching for. But if you want to spend a bundle on food and say you were there, don't blame me for warning you that there are better places to spend your money.

This was a really great place to eat. Wide menu. We ate what we thought were local foods and wine. Ambience lovely and staff very friendly. Good value.

It is now in the basement of what used to be Auerbach's in Goethe's time. Every Thursday the have actors come and enliven your evening with short intervals, which is not my cup of tea. Food is very traditional, and good, but we ate better in the Ratskeller, not much in the beer selection, just the local variety, which is however good. very much a tourist thing you have to do if you read Faust, but walking in and just having a beer earlier or later would be enough

The Marriot Hotel offered us a lunch and presentation on Faust at the Keller. The food was very poor with no healthy, fresh options.
