The location is perfect, right next to Frauenkirche. However, the whole setup is a bit inconvenient: Reception for check-in/out is in house number 10. Then, the apartment was in house number 2. And breakfast is yet in another building around the corner. The apartment is spacious, with large bathtub and separate kitchen. Bathroom even had washing machine. Overall, it seems suitable for tourists who want to stay for a few days and also make use of the kitchen. For business trips I will not book there again. Breakfast was decent. Apartment was overall very clean, even though there was some chemical smell in the corridor outside, which was not very appealing. My colleague stayed in another building and had to walk through some "Hinterhof" which was not very nice apparently. Anyway, if you want to stay super central and not spend much money, this is probably the place to go. If you have a few bucks more then I would recommend staying in a "real hotel", not an apartment like this.

Room Tip: I think the Neumarkt apartments are a bit better than the Muenzgasse apartments...

Stayed three nights in December, and loved the apartment and its location in the city...two minutes from the Frauenkirche. Beneath our window was the Muenzgasse Weihnachtsmarkt, with Christmas music playing throughout the day...which made the stay wonderful.

As for the apartment...two rooms, fully-stocked kitchen, bathroom with washing machine...everything we needed and more. Others have mentioned the curtain-less shower and not-always-perfect Wi-Fi, but these did not detract from the stay at all. No daily service until staying four nights, apparently, so we didn't see maid service during our trip, which I quite liked...just hang up the bath towel .

All in all, I really liked ApartHotel Muenzgasse, much less like a hotel and more like a nice apartment.

We stayed in this great apartment three days and found it ideal for exploring Dresden. It is right in the middle of the Old Town close to the Frauenkirche and the staff was always helpful. The furnishings for the apartment were nice but that is not a big concern. The rooms were spacious and we noticed no noise from the outside despite the fact that we were on the first floor in the front of the building overlooking the restaurants. We were there in October so the windows were mostly closed.
We arrived by car and were able to park directly behind the apartment while checking in and out so luggage handling was no problem. There is an underground car park on the other side of the square which was convenient and we paid for parking at the hotel.
When you consider that the Hilton, which is on the other side of the street, charges much more and gives you probably less than half the space of these apartments, with no facilities for preparing your own food, you can realize what a great value for the money this is.

The apartment is really spacious. Next to the sleeping room you have a living room with a large Flat TV and even books on the shelves. The bathroom is big and has a large bathtub - which is difficult to use as a shower, though (no curtains). There is even a washing machine.
We did not use the kitchen but it seemed fully equipped. The hall is spacious and has a place to hang coats. Overall it feels like a privately owned apartment.
But, we did not like the style of the furniture and decoration too much. As this might be individual taste it is well possible that it suits others much better than us.
There is an elevator in the house. We also did not like that you have to enter the house via the backyard/ court. I do not like backyards too much.
Even though the apartments are located so close to 'Frauenkirche' and at Muenzgasse it was difficult to get there as it is a pedestrian area (you had to carry your luggage quite a way) and parking was expensive. Muenzgasse is a typical tourist trap with lots of restaurants claiming to offer cuisine of a country but when taking a look at the menu you realize that it is not. Nevertheless Muenzgasse is packed and people sit outside for quite a while at night. Therefore, if one is sensible the apartment might be too noisy.

We stayed for 5 nights in mid September.

Getting there: Travel by public transport from Dresden airport was easy, fast and inexpensive. We took the S2 train from the airport to Dresden Hauptbahnhof (21 min journey, trains every 30 min). Then we took the Number 3 tram from the station to Pirnaischer Platz, which is the third stop from the station, takes no more than 5min. (You could also similarly take the No 7 tram, from the Wiener Platz exit from the station.) Finally, from Pirnaischer Platz it is a few minutes stroll to "An der Frauenkirche", the square where the Frauenkirche stands. The route from Pirnaischer Platz is via Landhauptstrasse, past the huge old building identifiable as the Police Headquarters, turning left into Salzgasse leading to An der Frauenirche. Munzgasse is directly off An der Frauenkirche and the entrance to the apartments is by the Ayers Rock restaurant. Total journey time from airport is less than 1hour and the fare (one ticket for train and tram) is only 2 Euro per person, compared to 25 Euros or more for a taxi transfer. Reception is on the first floor.

The Apartment: We had a 1 room apartment comprising bedroom, small comfortable lounge, well equipped galley kitchen and a spacious bathroom. There was lots of storage space, modern Ikea style furniture, settee and easy chair, flat screen TV in lounge and in the bedroom, radio/cd player etc, and comfortable (firm) bed. All very clean and overall very spacious. We had an apartment at the rear overlooking the small car park, so no "view" but this didn't matter to us.

The location of the apartments is ideal, with all the Altstadt sights on the doorstep. The Frauenkirche is 100 metres away, directly through the rear courtyard/car park exit and the Elbe river terrace is only 200 mtrs or so from the front entrance of the apartments, with access to the river boats for river trips. All the main museums/ art galleries are nearby as is the Zwinger and the Semperoper. We also made enjoyable trips to Pillnitz castle (20 minutes on No 2 tram from Pirnaischer Platz, 2 Euros per person) and to Meissen (35 minutes by S2 train from the Hauptbahnhof, cost 16 Euros for a family day ticket). You can also take the S2 to the villages up the Elbe as far as Bad Schandau in Saxon Switzerland. We were fortunate enough to attend a performance at the Semperoper, having booked well ahead on the internet. This, along with the Frauenkirche, was very much a highlight of our visit. The interior of the Semperoper, lobbies and auditorium are absolutely stunning. Guided tours of the building are available outside performance hours and I would recommend this if you cannot attend a performance. The equally stunning Frauenkirche is open for visiting everyday and there is a beautiful 30 minute peace and reconciliation service (in German) every Friday at midday, including reference to Coventry Cathedral with which the Frauenkirche has special links. For a charge you can also ascend to a viewing platform at the top of the dome. This comprises an elevator, lots of steep steps and a steep circular path within the dome - only for the fit. Views from the top on a good day are superb.

There are lots of restaurants near the apartments, in Munzgasse itself and around An der Frauenkirche and the Neumarkt. There is a large Aldi supermarket in the huge Altmarkt Gallerei shopping centre on the Altmarkt, about 7-8 minutes walk.

The only downside of our apartment at the rear was some noise and kitchen smells when the windows were open, which comes from the huge air extraction units of the kitchens of the Munzgasse restaurants occupying the ground floor of the apartment blocks. Other reviewers have also mentioned this. However this wasn't a problem for us with the windows shut, although it could be in high summer when you would need the windows open, as there is no air conditioning in the apartments. I think the extractors were switched off around midnight. There is also inevitably some early morning noise disturbance from refuse collectors. However, I would emphasise that these downsides did not materially spoil our stay and we would still recommend these apartments for their comfort, spaciousness and location. They are also good value in relation to expensive neighbouring hotels.

The apartments are spacious and very well fitted and even have a washing machine as well as a kitchenette. The only way you could get nearer to Fraunekirche would be to sleep in the church itself and the front door to the apartments leads straight onto Munzgasse, which is the main entertainment area and is therefore very convenient for bars, restaurants etc. The apartments are fully double glazed though so you will not be disturbed by the very professional buskers playing mainly classical music and songs every evening. The apartments are extremely good value compared to nearby hotels and can arrange discounted underground safe parking nearby (August 2012 15€ per day) or you can park outdoor opposite the police station for 6€ per day. The reception staff were extremely helpful and spoke excellent English. We asked for a clothes airer and one was delivered to our door within 5 minutes. So, park the car up and enjoy Dresden. You can get a family day card for use on all trams and buses for 7.50€, which covers a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children. This is valid up to 4am the day after issue and can be used in the whole of Zone 10, which is the whole of the Dresden area, including Schloss Pillnitz, which is well worth visiting.

We spent 3 nights here. The service was fantastic, lots of room, a kitchen if needed, and the added bonus was the wash machine in the bathroom - although there is no dryer. This saved us a trip to the laundromat. We were right in the main square, but noise was not a problem (and we slept with windows open!) - even though this was during the European Cup soccer tournament. The only con was the parking. You must park in a garage and it is approximately $15 per night if you find space in the right garage. Otherwise, it's in the Melia garage at $30 per night. I highly recommend this hotel.
