“History made real, great for kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2012

This is a vast museum, full of colorful interactive exhibits on all kinds of transport: autos, trucks, motorbikes, boats, trains. We went in because of an interest in motorbikes and found ourselves wandering the whole place, fascinated. We had no children along, but there was even a large hildren's activity area, supervised by museum people. All the transport exhibits had excellent displays explaining how the technology of the time played into historical events. Explanations in English were good. A very worthwhile stop
In a city filled with great museums.

“Overshadowed by other Dresden attractions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2012

We stopped in the Transport Museum mostly because there was a temporary exhibit detailing the bombings of Dresden, London and Coventry during WWII. The exhibit was good, though it was produced in London and did not have extensive information about Dresden.

Because we arrived late in the day, we had limited time to see the rest of the museum after the temporary exhibit. Still, we quickly managed to make our way through most of it and were glad that we did.

There are several hands-on exhibits for kids, so this would make a good stop for families on holiday. It is in the general area of several other Dresden attractions (Frauenkirche, Zwinger, etc.) so consider stopping by if you are near those.

“Another Good Choice for Families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2011

In contrast to the many fine art galleries throughout Dresden, this museum deals with the more utilitarian requirements of transportation. The museum touches on trains, watercraft, local transit, a small section on flight, and cars produced in the eastern part of Germany (pre and post WWII). The displays will keep you interested, but there is also a section for small children that allows them to propel themselves around a small driving range with stop lights, intersections, etc. In the watercraft section there is a small exhibit with RC boats. A visit here might buy time to go back and look at the Vermeers, Rafaels, and Rembrandts!

If you are in Dresden and are at all interested in this sort of thing this is well worth a visit, especially as it is so central.
