Therese-Malten-Villa
Ranked #8 of 107 Dresden B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

This house has the typical ambiance that can be appreciated during the down shifting of gears before the weekend. It breathes Wagner. And isn't that what you are looking for in Dresden? Close to the Elbe river and opposite to the majestic summer palace, you need to take your time to walk some paces and let the atmosphere drain your thoughts.

We decided to stay another day in Dresden and wanted to experience a guest house outside the main city limits. This guest house is situated about 10 kms away from Dresden, alongside the Elbe River bike path and diagonal over the river to the Pilnitz Palace. It is a wonderfully maintained historical house, which remains true to its roots (the prior home of an opera singer). The grounds are absolutely fabulous - providing a place of serenity and peace. The hosts, Ines and Stephan are unassuming and professional - providing a very welcoming atmosphere. They gave sufficient information concerning the house and then allowed you to use it as your own. There is a well appointed kitchen downstairs, where filtered coffee was available and appreciated. Continental breakfast was available 'buffet style' with an adequate selection. A small sheltered courtyard provided a great spot in the morning to appreciate breakfast. A great way to finish our bike ride along the Elbe (Prague to Dresden).

Room Tip: Room overlooking the Elbe River and the magnificent grounds.

This historical villa sits in well maintained gardens beside the Elbe. It is the previous home of an early 20th century opera singer. It's a period piece! The owners are unobtrusive and one allowed use of reading room and a modern kitchen dining area in the basement. It is a slightly dark and somber residence, one can imagine the Phantom of the Opera appearing. A fair way out of town but a simple tram ride of 15 - 20 minutes or ride your
cycle along the dedicated cycle track.

I have been really impressed by the experience. It is much better than being in Dresden city centre which is always swarming with tourists. Ines and Stephan are very attentive and they help you prepare your stay with professionalism and attention to detail. They also know when to retire and allow you to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this manor house and park and for you to make it your own house. You might choose to cycle to Dresden, take public transport or even a boat and then you retire to the amazing peace and quiet of the Elbe fields.

Room Tip: If on your own the old library is a great place to be. Excellent sleep quality and top notch facili...

If you are visiting the Dresden area my husband and I highly recommend you stay here. Here is just outside Dresden proper-- a 20- 25 minute ride on the tram number 2 whose stop is about a 10 minute walk away. The Villa grounds, which are huge, back onto a bike/hike/walk trail, a small wheat field, and then the Elbe and right across the river is the Pilnitz Palace. Out the Villa's back gate and a short walk to the left, are a biergarten and then the ferry stop. Our room was great, very big, very bright, 4 big double windows; the Villa itself is just phenomenal-- breakfast was very nice, and because the weather was super, breakfast was on the back terrace--- and while our German is not very good, the staff here, the owner's mom-- all were just super at helping us out and patiently helped me practice my German. Internet access was great so we were able to get work done while we relaxed.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the Villa have better views.

The villa is in a beautiful location on the Elbe about 25 minutes from Dresden city center. We planned on staying in the city center, but saw this villa listed on trip advisor, and decied to stay here instead. We are so glad we did. The villa is in a very quiet location, and is just a few minutes walk to the Elbe, nice restaurants, and a ferry that takes you to the other side of the Elbe where you can visit a palace and beautiful gardens.

We chose to drive to Dresden city center (about 20-25 minutes), but there is also a local tram that one can take from the villa to Dresden city center.

We stayed in the Therese-Malten room which was very spacious (free wifi). The host and hostess were very friendly and gracious. Although you could pay for breakfast, we chose to make our own meals. The kitchen was large and they had everything one would need to make meals.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 have a view of the Elbe. Room 2 also has a balcony.

My wife, my 2 year old son and i spent 2 nights at this wonderful place. The host and hostess were very polite and incredibly helpful. My little boy wasnt too well and he messed up the room as soon as we entered. Mrs. Scharfe was kind enough to change the linen in the room and also help clean the room.
The property was brilliant with a wonderful garden and a fantastic view of the river. Our only regret was that we couldn't spend more time at this wonderful place.

Room Tip: Suggest you get a view of the river and also best if you drive to the hotel.
