Maritim Hotel Dresden

A really lovely high quality and immaculately clean hotel. The rooms are huge by normal standards- far larger than even the average 'executive' or 'superior' room in most 4 star hotels. It is slightly let down by the ancient tiny screen TV with similarly ancient and irritating menu access and with virtually no international programme availability. Not too much vorsprung durch technik in this department! The hotel is located just a short 10 minute stroll from the old town which is comfortable for most people though after a day walking around the sights you may wish you had stayed in one of the options in the town. The other criticism which seems to be common throughout the Maritim group is the total lack of an in house wifi system. Your device will link to 'Telekom' giving the impression of a connection but on attempting to access the web Telekom hijack your connection and present you with the option, at a cost of 5 Euro per 24 hours, of inputting all your personal and card details together with creating passwords etc. It really is just too much hassle. I would have reluctantly paid a 5 euro charge on my hotel bill for a password access but that option is not available. If this and the TV shortcomings are of minor importance to you, in most other respects this hotel is excellent..

This hotel is in a former grain store which makes it look a little strange. The rooms are large clean and comfortable as are the bathrooms. The only downside (excuse the pun) are the lifts, there are only three, are quite small and with eight floors queues often form at busy times. Breakfasts are excellent for choice, quality and quantity. The hotel is a pleasant short walk, along the Elbe, from the Altstadt and all the main sites.

Room Tip: Half the rooms overlook the Elbe, those that face the road are still very quiet however.

Spacious rooms and beautifully clean with pleasant staff who were helpful. Situated some 400 metres from the Semper Opera it is possible to walk by some trees along the pavement above the river Elbe. The excellent breakfast can be busy between 7.30 and 8.30am as delegates from the adjacent conference centre live in the hotel. The hotel is quiet and although there is a fairly busy road on one side the soundproofing is excellent as is the air conditioning.
I ate in the dining room only once as on that occasion dinner was a buffet barbecue and was very good. English is spoken. Whilst not exactly in the centre of Dresden it is very close and easily walkable for all but the most disabled people. I would certainly return.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour for one night. The rooms are large and well appointed. Air conditioning is nice! The buffet breakfast had a very good variety of everything. 5 minute walk to the old town. No free wifi which would be nice in a hotel of this calibre.

I had been to this hotel three months ago for the first time and my review would have been different for a few points, but now I really feel I have to write this as the second time was really disappointing.
First of all the restaurant is unbelievably expensive without a reason. The food is average and so is the service. Room service follows: portions are small and you don't even get a little bit of bread with your order.
In between my two stays they decided the bathrope had to be charged: so now they ask you €5 each. Unacceptable from a 4* hotel.
What is more unbelievable is how much they charge for a small dog. I totally accept the fact that they might charge something for extra cleaning at the end of the stay... But €20 PER DAY is more than 20% over the room rate and it's totally out of place!!!
Internet is from T-Mobile. Quite expensive and not as fast as it should considering what you pay for. And actually... nowadays I just think a 4* hotel should give you free wifi!
Rooms are big and have nice bathrooms. The only down is the TV which comes from the 70s!!
This would be a good hotel. The problem is the quality of the service, and the way it's given.
The only problem is that they do not understand that charging for a bathrope or that much for a small dog is a terrible lack of service and it's going to upset their guest and have them change place the next time they come. I will.

We stayed at the Maritim as part of a conducted tour of Dresden.
The rooms were large, extremely well appointed and immaculately clean.
The restaurant breakfast(self service) was wonderful, with a wide variety of choice from fruit and cold meats to a 'full english' if required.
The glass lifts were a very interesting feature in the huge central atrium of the hotel, although we never quite worked out how to operate them!
The hotel is an easy walk from the historic centre of Dresden with great views over the river.
The service throughout our stay was first class.
Strongly recommended.

Room Tip: If you can get a room overlooking the river, away from the road.

Another great Maritim hotel, this time on the banks of the Elbe and only minutes away from the centre. Very large room on the first floor with enough space to have a couch as well as a couple of chairs and a table. Again bathrobes and slippers supplied and cleanliness standards very high. The dining room was bright and breezy thankfully as the weather outside was superb ....... we took a table near the open door onto the patio when we had breakfast. Buffet was immense and the chef was there to cook your eggs as requested. Once again staff at the Maritim were very good and helpful. We tried the leisure facilities and the pool was great as were the sauna and steam room, all with plenty of towels. As we had an early start in the morning we thought that we would give the Room Service a go and have some food in our room on our last night. Having stayed in many hotels over the years, I have had some bad experiences with hotel food but the food from the Room Service menu was tremendous.
A couple of things to note.... Try and get a room to the rear of the hotel as we were overlooking the main road at the front and the noise of the traffic was a bit of a nuisance, especially from fairly early in the morning. We were thinking of having a snack in the bar but the smell of smoke was overwhelming.... No smoking ban here yet. But overall another very good hotel.
