Pros: The NH Dresden is a relatively new hotel, so you get a decent amount of sound insulation and extras such as a sauna, steam room, and fitness center. Although I didn't stop in for a meal, the restaurant/bar area of the hotel was appealing. The front desk staff puts forth a decent effort in helping guests.
Cons: First off, this hotel is more off the beaten path than expected, situated in a less than attractive part of the city, though there are tram stops within walking distance. The "high-speed internet" is anything but fast; it's actually a shared 128kbps connect, so don't expect to get anything done without paying $15/day for an upgrade to business class. Hotel representatives placed the blame for the slow connection on the hotel's service provider, and claimed they couldn't do anything about it. The clear avoidance of any responsibility for falsely advertising free high-speed internet was frustrating. Moreover, you have to enter in a unique username and password for each device you want to connect, which need to be re-entered at times... as if the slowness wasn't already a total inconvenience. There are no safes in the room, so you'll have to find some other way to secure your valuables. While many hotels include breakfast with your stay, this one does not (breakfast is about $15 extra per person). Also, on a minor note, there are only fluorescent lights in the bathroom, which eliminate any comforting feel that the room may have provided. Lastly, the While the front desk representatives were quite helpful about local attractions, they failed to identify hurdles that tourists might face in pursuing those attractions. Generally, Dresden is not as tourist-friendly as other major cities in Europe, so don't expect the luxuries that other cities afford their tourists.
