Owner description: Restored to its former magnificence after its destruction in the 1945 bombing of Dresden, this elaborate, High Renaissance style opera house presents opera, ballet and jazz performances, and is worth a visit if only to marvel at its ornate interior.

Pleasant to look at, esthetically beautiful opera fits in with Dresden style buildings. Loved it....

Last week I visited this place to take a round through guided trip, but it was time for actual opera so guided tour was not there, so they offered me a 7.5 euro ticket to SEE the OPERA ! what a surprise. I had to go to fourth floor and stand there to see opera, but luckily I managed to seat on steps and see the opera. Its a great theater with beautiful Zwnger palace next to it.
The opera itself was no great, it was a mix of ballet, dance, acrobatics, some group movements, no story, but Germans loved it and and clapped for more than 5 minutes, that was more interesting and surprising to me

This was my second trip to Dresden to take in 2 operas and I was again impressed with the sight lines and the small intimate nature of the whole house. if there is something on while you are visiting the city it is strongly recommended.

A real gem, located not far from the Frauenkirche (but what is?). We saw La Boheme, which was a wonderful production. Excellent acoustics. Beautif decor.

Being able to book seats online and then receive the tickets in a few days is one of the joys of the Semper Opera House. Productions are first rate and seats comfortable - air conditioning comes up the seat backs - the foyers are magnificent and no one is too fussed with what you wear. book a late dinner at the Cafe Schinkelwache for after the performance. Guided tours of the stage and house are available daily before the performances.
