The photographs of the hotel do not really show its true position, adjacent to a very busy road and near a bridge crossing the Elbe.
Thus, if you need the windows open at night, there is considerable traffic noise.
It is close to the tram stop and is convenient for getting in to the city.
We chose a balcony room but it was misleading as there was nowhere to sit and you could only stand and look over the balcony.
Although the back of the hotel is adjacent to a cycle path along the Elbe, the view is across to a Siemens chemical factory.
It was early in the Season so the trees were not yet in leaf and it will probably be better when they are.
Tea/coffee making facilities would be appreciated.
The Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The hotel was easy to find and the staff very pleasant. The location was not the best as it is a brisk 45 minute walk to the centre of the town. However, the walk alongside the river is interesting and I made sure I took a taxi back.
The room was the standard Mercure type and so you know what to expect, a good quality at a reasonable cost.

First of all: choose this hotel only when you have your own means of transport. It's way out of town, bus/tram/train somewhat erratic and rather poor over the weekends.
Due to the "U"-shape of the building, the river views are limited even on the "right" side of the building. Also: the pretty "balcony with a view" as shown on their website exists in reality for ONE room only.
My room had been pre-booked weeks in advance, so my arrival didn't come as a surprise. However, checking-in on a freezing cold winter afternoon, I found all radiators in my room turned off completely. So far for "hospitality"...
Room was clean and spacious with new furnitures, bed on the soft side. Bathroom rather small.

While my package included free internet, this fact was disputed for quite some time by the receptionist. ACCOR should be able to communicate their own promotions to their staff properly!

In short: not a "must" in a town like Dresden, where new and more central hotel options are mushrooming at present.

I stayed here one night for business together with a colleague by accident. We originally had booked the Best Western Hotel around the corner but when we arrived there they told us they had to rebook us to this hotel.

What we liked
- covered parking for a fair price and with enough spaces
- breakfast was nice selection and pretty tasty
- large rooms

What we did not like
- Service in the restaurant and bar. Slow, unprofessional and not really engaged
- Reception forced us to pay the room immediately at check-in (kind of unusual in my eyes)
- The elevators are very old, don't have a TUV check-mark and make strange noises
- Internet has to be paid seperately and cannot be booked on the room
- For whatever reason the internet could not be booked to my Mastercard, it had to be Visa
- The doors to the room cannot be locked but opened electronically (not really safe) - I had to move a table to the door to block it
- The walls of the hotel are very thin ... so hard to find a good night sleep

I still would prefer the Best Western next time.

When I planned our trip to Dresden I found out that all the downtown hotels in our price range had no more rooms left, so we decided we would give the Mercure Elbpromenade a try and we did not regret it.

Check in by a friendly, enthusiastic and efficient young man was a breeze. Our room was big by European standards and had the usual amenities except a room safe, so I had to bring my laptop to the reception for safekeeping during the day when we were sightseeing. We had a room with water view that was absolutely quiet. (room 227) Everything was spotlessly clean and worked well. Two complementary bottles of mineral water and one of apple juice were in the mini-fridge.

The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of food to suit all tastes, staff was well-trained, friendly but not intrusive. The hotel is situated about 3 km or a 10 minutes tram-ride from downtown in a mostly industrial area. A train station is about 130 metres away if you want to travel by train, there is free parking on the hotel grounds or an inside parking for a fee. On the day of our departure we simply walked the few steps to the train station "Bahnhof Cotta", took a local train that brought us to Dresden Main Station in 7 minutes and took a train to Berlin.

Internet is provided by an outside supplier and has different rate plans. I used a 60 minutes plan where you log on and off at will and it lasted me two days at a cost of 3.95€.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the back are quieter and have water view, but across the water there are a few industr...
