Owner description: This art museum is jam packed with masterpieces by the likes of Rubens and Titian, but it is most famous for Rafael's Sistine Madonna.

Some star performers in this relatively small gallery, including Raphael, Titian, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Cranach and Holbein. But like all German museums the entry fee is quite steep (10.00 euros). I guess I am spoiled, being from London where all the great collections are free to enter. Collection housed in a building which forms part of the enclosure to the Zwinger and very centrally located.

Beautiful collection of famous paintings and also fascinating old architecture. I spent there more than 3 hours and did not manage to see everything. Cannot wait to come back and see the rest.
You can have the audio guide, which is very interesting.

A manageable size, like the Frick in New York.

The blockbuster work--the Sistine Madonna with the two irreverent cherubs at the bottom--is right in the first room.

In my view, this is the #1 sight in Dresden.

Your few hours in Dresden will be well spent by visiting the Old Masters' gallery. Admire many paintings by Canaletto and Cranach or indulge in Vermeer's female portraits or meditate on Sistine Madonna's serene expression.
