“Great food, excellent wine, fab setting, wonderful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

We went to Kastenmeiers for a 65th birthday dinner and had the most wonderful time (we stayed for four hours!).
The restaurant is right in the middle of the old town, near the Frauenkirche, housed in "Dresden's last ruin" (only renovated in the last decade).
We paid about EUR 100 per person for a truly exceptional meal (4 courses and wine) - less than we had expected. The setting inside the Kurland Palais was splendid, but what made the visit really worthwhile was the staff - even on a Saturday night, the barman took time to show off his wine collection and let us choose; the waitress took real pride to recount the story of the Palais and elaborated on the available menu choices; and other passing waiters stopped more than once to show off the amazing fish concoctions on their way from the kitchen to their respective tables. It was clear that everybody was having fun working there, and took pride in sharing this with their guests.
Would always recommend this for a special occasion.

Oh, and by the way, Kastenmeiers do business lunches for an incredible EUR 9.90 during the week (and 19.90 on weekends).

“Fine dining in a Dresden palace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013 via mobile

We chose Kastenmeiers for a celebratory meal on a special weekend in Dresden and were not disappointed. The restaurant is in the beautiful Kurland Palais between the Frauenkirche and the Albertinum, where Dresden's main collection of 19th century and modern art is housed. The main dining room has bare stone walls and modern art; we weren't sure this worked but the overall impression with the furnishings was stylish. The restaurant specialises in fish (but meat dishes are also available) and has an extensive wine list including a huge choice of German and local Saxon wines. The staff guided us through the menu including the dishes you can have for two and the various options. This was lunch and we wanted something quite light so we shared half a dozen Irish oysters to start and then had sea bream baked in salt between the two of us, with champagne and truffle risottos, spinach and salsify. We chose a Saxon white wine. The food, wine and two coffees, with two glasses of prosecco to start and mineral water, came to €133. The cooking and service were of high quality and this was good value for a special occasion. Only criticism: surely a restaurant of this quality doesn't need canned music.

“Lovely space, lovely food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2012

This was primarily a fish place with live lobsters and trout swimming in a big tank. It was in a beautiful old building with exposed stone walls. They had a beautiful christmas tree on an open terrace. It has snowed and the tree was spotlight. Really pretty. We had the trout which was spectacular.

“Exceeds expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Spending a weekend in Dresden to celebrate a very special occasion we chose Kastenmeier's for dinner and we were not lot down. Attentative and professional service, a unique and stylishly decorated building, quality food and a good selection of excellent local wines.
We treated ourselves to lobster pasta which was freshly prepared at our table. We asked for wine recommedations and enjoyed a bottle of the "house wine" which in fact was bottled exclusively for Kastenmeier's at the prestigious Schloss Proschwitz winery near Dresden.
Eventually we did spent some money there but it was worth each and every Cent.

“Superb international cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

Off the river in old Dresden next to the art museum. Arrived after two in the afternoon and were immediately seated. Decor and atmosphere of an upscale restaurant. Perfect service. The menu is international, but we had middle-European meat dishes, done perfectly. The waitress recommended a local wine which was perfect. Bill was a hundred euro and well worth it.
