NH Collection Dresden Altmarkt

This was our 2nd time visiting the Dresden Christmas Market and we enjoyed our 2nd stay at the NH Dresden Hotel. We use the underground parking garage that is reserved for the hotel guests with an elevator that takes you right up to the lobby for easy check in. The staff speaks perfect English and will try to help you with all your needs. We had tickets to see the Nut Cracker Ballet at the Semperopera House. It was raining and the walk is about 10 minutes, we asked the front desk what time the doors open and they immediately called to check for us. We also travel with our dog and she is always welcome at the hotel. I wouldn't consider any other hotel in Dresden as long as rooms were available at the NH.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the Altmarket is a must at Christmas but not important for other times of the ye...

NH Dresden Altmarkt is very nicely located near the train station. Even though we had a big suitcase, we can still take it with us and walk to the hotel. It's just about less than 10 min walk and the city is nicely planned that we exit the main train station and we only need to walk across two streets, the whole walk is on a pedestrian mall with a lot of shops around. So you don't feel bored or unsafe when walking through. We requested a room with the Altmarkt plaza view and we did get it. We stayed at the 5th floor which is very nice with view overlooking at the plaza which the Dresden Galarie next to it. We can walk to all the historic attraction within 15-20 min., where we can find all the beautiful rebuilt heritages and also with a lot of shops and eateries at the Dresden Galarie. The hotel staff is helpful and telling us the direction getting to Pillnitz Castle which take about 40 min to reach there on sunday. We get a family pass at 8 Euro for public transport which we can take the tram, bus and ferry. We also visited the VW factory which is about 20 min walk from our hotel, but we took the tram to the VW factory after our visit to the Pillnitz Castle.
For breakfast, since the hotel one is pretty expensive, we had our breakfast everyday at the cafe just in front of the hotel, with 2 coffee and 2 pastry which costs about Euro 7. What a budget!
The only drawn back that I think is without hot water boiler so I can't make some tea during my stay. Hot water can be get from the bar but the bar was super busy in the evening. The staff are so busy that I have been waiting for 5 minutes without being able to get my mug filled. Other than that, I think this hotel is excellent!

We enjoyed our 3 night stay very much. The hotel has a great location close to the main tourist sites and many tram lines right in Almarkt Square which the hotel is on. We were able to take the pedestrian mall all the way from the train station to the hotel. We walked to all the sites and across the bridge easily. The room was very modern looking, clean and the staff who spoke excellent English were friendly and helpful. We did not have a meal at the hotel since there were so many restaurants to chose from close by. There happen to be a festival in the square when we were there so the room with a view was worth it. If it was not for the festival, I would say not to give much importance to it. We did find the mod chairs in the room not very comfortable to sit in but who sits around the room with such a great city all within a couple of blocks. Would highly recommend this hotel for its location, rooms and staff.

I was very happy with the modern, clean, stylish NH Dresden. The location is just across from a cathedral and a short walk to the central tourist areas. The breakfast was great and we enjoyed the upstairs bar for an early cocktail, some snacks, and some TV sports. The only reason I didn't go 5 star is the wifi situation. You have to get a password at the front desk every time you go online...can't recall how long it was good for but half an hour seems right. Would be nice to have free wifi in the rooms at all times like most hotels do now days. Still, a very nice choice in Dresden as everything else was excellent.

A great, in-town location that allows you to walk to everything you might want to visit. This Spanish chain, which seems to be taking over all of Europe, has a certain look: very clean and modern with dramatic lighting, and standardized, minimalist decor throughout.

The room was small but with space efficiently used, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but spotless, gleaming chrome fixtures, but when we used the sink (with the name Villeroy & Boch prominently displayed) it was so shallow that the water splashed everywhere. The bathtub was narrow and dangerously slippery due to the curved sides, and the shower took some doing to operate. It would have been convenient for those of us who take showers to have a place for the soap and shampoo.

The buffet breakfast was standard fare, and something else that is becoming standard: charging extra for it, which was never the case in Germany and Austria.

The free WiFi offered did not work in our room, perhaps due to its location in the furthest corner of the hotel. It did however work in the lobby.

If you're looking for a great location for sightseeing in this fabulous city, this is a great choice. Just don't expect any local flavor or atmosphere from this chain hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Altmarkt.

Thanks to Tripadvisor.com website! We chose this hotel following the website recommendations and were very happy with our choice. A clean and comfortable place to stay for a couple of days in Dresden. Great hotel location - from hotel one can get to any historical place in 5 minutes by walk. Also, the proximity to cafes, restaurants and shopping malls makes this hotel perfect for those who likes enjoying a good meal, coffee and shopping. The price is also quite fair. The staff is highly responsive and polite. We really enjoyed our staying here.

Central locale, easy walk to Frauenkirche, Elbe River, all central museums. Breakfast not included in our fare, but coffee shops right around corner, including Starbucks, which had much faster wifi than hotel's, both also complimentary. Altmarkt Square "Fair" going on in late September right outside with good food/ drink choices and rides for kids. Friendly helpful front desk who spoke English. A restful two night stay and start of planned sojourn to Poland Silesia toward east.
