“THE CHEMNITZER-HIGHTOWER”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

I was in this hotel for one night as an in-between stay during a business trip and I arrived late in the night, so the nearby parking was almost full. The hotel is a very large and high building (my room was at the 12th floor, the restaurant at the 14th!) and it's located in a quite new administrative district. The hotel in itself is not exactly new, dating back about in the 70ies but renewed during the 90ies. Rooms are actually quiet and comfortable, furnishing is not exactly very modern but well cared and not yet in need of renewing, bathroom not enormous but well furnished, WiFi OK, Minibar well supplied, all very nice. The restaurant (14th Fl.) open untill about 10 pm (if I remember well) offers a stunning view on the district and a quite good variety of specialityies from the international and above all the local cuisine. Quality of food satisfying even the high expectations!

I'm just going to make lists of the good v bad points of this hotel...

Good Points:
Very close to town and restaurants.
High building so you can usually find it even when you think you're lost!
Breakfast is great. (You can get it in your room for no extra charge too which is always a plus)
The member of staff on at night was very helpful.

Bad Points:
Rooms are VERY small.
VERY Hot - Air con is non existent. Have a weird 'cool' panel on the ceiling which is supposed to cool the room but it doesn't.
Shower runs scolding hot then freezing cold (it wasn't just in our room - other guests said the same)
Bathroom is a really odd shape and small - The shower is in the middle of the bath which makes flooding the bathroom very easy!
We were in room 1910 and we could hear the people at the outdoor bar - 19 floors up!!!
We were told the bar was open until 5am so we had to shut the window which closed off any air to help cool the room :-(
The guy on night duty gave us two fans - but the room was so god damn hot to start it didn't cool it at all. Just blew the hot air around which gave 'slight' relief!
The second night we had to leave the window open as it was just too hot and stuffy but found that the fans did drown out the bar below slightly so always get a fan if you have to stay here!

Would I stay again? NO!

Room Tip: If you need to sleep and like a window open - ask for a room on the opposite side to where the outdo...

Hotel location is excellent very close to downtown. The finest hotel in Chemnitz. Good number of rooms available. Service is just OK. It is a business hotel and facilities are quite limited. Rooms on higher floors(14 and above) are good. Hotel has excellent restaurant on 26th Floor

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 14 sand avove

Good location, an easy stroll to some shops and restaurants and banks.

Room was fairly small but clean and functional.

The four lifts were pretty quick meaning that it didn't take long to get to our floor.

Clean.

The breakfast had a wide choice of dishes and the dining room was so large it didn't feel too crowded.

Some free internet access was available in the reception area.

Reasonably priced if booked in advance.

The stay at the hotel was wholly positive as it was in a central location which the shopping area with restaurants are only a short walk away.

The hotel is very easy to find as the building is the tallest in Chemnitz, so you can follow it without getting lost - I followed it all the way from the railway station.

The room was very comfortable, just perfect for a short stay.

The only criticism is the hefty €15.00 price for breakfast, but to be fair because the breakfast room is at the top of the hotel offering good views therefore the higher price. But this hotel is not a luxurious 5 star type which I think this price should be reduced slightly as not everyone staying would be wealthy.

I hope to stay at this hotel again if I do pass through Chemnitz in the future.

Well, couldn't find something positive on this hotel. The rooms were very tiny. No suites at all.
The bed was never comfort.
What you need you need to pay for it first. no free internet at all. I paid in advance for 4 nights and what I received a very slow internet. approximate: 6 KB per second with 9 euro per night!
Requested some help from the staff and they said you need to call the internet provider. How it come that I call?
It is a Hotel facility!
No free parking at all.
Please check other hotels in the area.. Maybe it will be better than this..
