We ate in the bar area. It's the third time we have stopped over in Saarbrucken and have eaten here each time. The menu is a little limited but service is friendly and the food good. Beer is either a citrus tasting light beer or dark beer.

A very traditional German Restaurant, the oldest in Saarbruecken, serving excellent traditional cooking together with an excellent choice of beers and wines. Not exactly in the centre of town, in a quiet little street just off St Johannes Markt; it is well worth a visit; meals can be served in the Restaurant or in a lovely gardened little courtyard within the restaurant itself (if you're lucky enough to get a seat therein). All things considered, prices are very reasonable.
Dislike ... service seemed a little slow, but saying that, the Restaurant was busy ... so, you'll have to decide for yourself.

Having enjoyed a meal here last year and noticing how busy the restaurant was, we booked ahead by email, got a positive reply and turned up looking forward to sampling the menu's local specialities. Alas, our booking had not been noted in the book and we were offered seats in the very crowded brewhouse part of the premises, where a short version of the menu operates.
So instead of dinner with wine we tucked in to lyoner sausage salad and a baked potato with (tasteless) cheese, washed down by the Stiefel's own unfiltered beers (the light being tastier than the dark). Our waitress was most attentive despite being run off her feet (more staff needed?) and this, along with very reasonable prices and a lively ambience, partly made up for our initial disappointment.
Recommended, but don't trust their booking system!

I visited Saarbrucken two weeks ago and one of my friends took me to this restaurant to try the Saar food ... I just love that restaurant! and the food is just delicious and with big quantity! They make their own beer so make sure not to miss it. I really enjoyed this restaurant.

The "Stiefel" is a restaurant with typical german brewery interior. They serve local beer and typical german and "saarland" food! Especially in the evening or at the weekend reservation is recommended. I can recommend this restaurant to everyone who stays in Saarbrücken and wants to try some local beer and food!
