“french cuisine? not only.....”

one of these nice hidden places, where you can have very fine prepared meals without sophistication, nice service, good wines, and low prices. Jut in a little calm street next to the Motel-One and behind the main terrass place... they'll have local specialties, but also very nice and simple roasted merguez with roasted potatoes.... all very traditional but prepared with love... go for it!

“Cosy German-French Restaurant with great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

During our trip to Europe we were on our way from Paris to Frankfurt in the small town of Saarbrucken for two days. We wanted to try traditional food and in our hotel suggested to us the restaurant La Bastille in Old Saarbrücken.

We were lucky to get a table on a Friday night without a reservation. We loved this cozy, small and very attractive restaurant. My wife and I had an appetizer, a freshly made tomato soup and snails in garlic butter (something we had never eaten before, but friends had told us that this is a French specialty). Both entrees were delicious (especially the snails in garlic butter were fantastic).

For main course I tried something they call here "Dibbelabbes". We were told that this was a traditional dish in the Saarland made of potatoes, veggies and bacon. I had the "Dibbelabbes" with salmon, cream fraiche and apple sauce and it tasted great to me! My wife had pasta with a pepper sauce with beef (the sauce was so good that we asked the waitress for the cooking recipe but they told us it was a secret). Even though we were more than full, we had a dessert, a "crème brulée" (a French dessert with a kind of custard).
And we had a very good bottle of red wine from Bordeaux!

It was very nice here and maybe we come back here someday, when we are in Europe (although Saarbrücken is not exactly easy to get here).

“A little bit of Alsace”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

Excellent food, ambience and service. It was 28th December and everyone in Saarbrücken seemed to be looking for a place to eat. We tried several but were all full. We came upon this small restaurant and fortunately there was only one table for two available but unfortunate for the line of people behind us! Enjoyed some excellent food and wine!
