Great construction that brings lots of history alive. It doesn't take much time either to go up and across the whole building. There is also a very nice view of Trier center area from up there.

Driving along the main road in Germany`s oldest city one is confronted by a famous landmark, the Porta Nigra gate (or black gate), the largest and well preserved Roman gate north of the Alps.
This is the entrance into the old town, and what an entrance. One can take a tour with a centurion in uniform and delve into the gate`s past and discover the secrets. This is a wonderful starting point to visit Trier.

Definitely one of the many places a visitor should go to. It's iconic. The climb up to the top of the tower is well worth the small entrance fee. The view is great. Best place to take picture would be from the other side on the main road.

You get really excited when you enter the old town through theses gates built around AD200 you get a sense of being part of history. Located adjacent to the tourist information office you have to pick your moment to take photos as this place is heaving with tourists.
You are allowed to clamber onto its upper levels and get a nice birdseye view of this busy town.
A definite must see.
