Trier is a secret gem of Germany. Trier's history dates back to the 4th century BC but the city's 1st century Roman history is amazing.
Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra is just across the road - less than 100m from the Porta Nigra and the old part of the city. The hotel is also an easy walk (with luggage) from the railway station. We stayed two nights and wish we had stayed longer; in both Trier and the hotel.
Our room was large, very clean and comfortable; perhaps not 5 star luxury but certainly 4 star top quality. The view from our room of the Porta Nigra, especially at night however, was 10 star !!
All the staff were very friendly, cooperative and knowledgeable. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of hot and cold dishes. We ate dinner both nights in the hotel bistro/restaurant and were very happy with both the food and the cost. Special mention should be made of the two very nice ladies who served us, despite some language difficulties, their service was excellent.
We can Definitely Recommend the Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra.
