“Thoroughly enjoyable museum.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

If your heart normally sinks at the mention of a 'local museum' put aside your fears and visit this extremely satisfying place. It has lots of great exhibits, town models, Roman statuary and some stunning mosaic floorings. It's closed on Mondays, only costs €6, and has a very useful free audio guide to the major exhibits. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable museum. And unless you go in the height of summer, you should have the place largely to yourself. Highly recommended.

“Fantastic regional museum, quality exhibits”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

In mid-April we were two of maybe 10 visitors in the museum. The staff was polite and helpful and the exhibits are top-notch. You can leave your coats and bags in lockers that only take a coin as a deposit-nice feature when doing a lot of walking.
Loads of Roman ruins and artifacts. The mosaics and small exhibit about viniculture were especially interesting. We were wondering if Romans really trained their vines the way they were shown in the recreation and then turned around and saw them carved on the ruin-great attention to detail.
You can get a combo ticket Antikcard which gives you entrance to two Roman ruins and the Landesmuseum. We found that the basic card was plenty and visited the amphitheater, Landesmuseum and Porta Nigra. You can see most of the Roman baths from the garden outside, so it isn't necessary to purchase the upgrade while still experiencing the city if you are on a budget.
Would recommend!

“Interesting but definitely not 1st priority in Trier”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

We took the opportunity as part of the "Antike-Ticket" to visit the museum. It offers a lot of interesting pieces to check. However, I think you need to be really into this to find an added value in visiting this place besides all the other roman places in Trier. It takes a lot of time (maybe half a day) to really go through everything in a proper way. I think this is not necessary for an ordinary person, if you are in Trier just for a weekend.

“Great Museum”

Great museum, with interesting exhibits on Roman history of this ancient Roman capital. It was easy to get around the museum, but be sure to ask where the Roman coin exhibits are if you missed them.

“Potential not fulfilled”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

I have visited this museum several times over the years. On the one occasion the whole place was open it was excellent, but the other 5or 6 times large parts of it were closed (though they charged the full entrance fee). On one occasion I was turned away as it was raining outside and I was deemed too wet to be allowed in.
With a better management team it might become more user friendly
