“Really atmospheric & interesting”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

This was our favourite Roman Ruin in Trier, partly because it was the one we learned most about thanks to the audio tour. This is probably a must as there is little signage

Not as much of this has survived as I had imagined. But it is not difficult to imagine the set up. The way the amphitheater is designed the acoustics are incredible. Down on the floor of it and someone on the top, just a soft comment can be heard. Wonderful place.

“a self-guided attraction”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

There is very little signage at this location, and the extent of the information you will receive comes from the little map you get with your ticket along with a unique audio speaker system which standing by itself toward the opposite end of the ampitheatre (costs 1 euro, four languages of audio, including English, are available). The paper map provides details on the handful of areas to explore further, but in general, the attraction is simply the remaining existence of such a structure from Roman Times. The underground cavern is worth a peak, as is a trip through the barrel arches into the upper area. This in particular gives a close look at how such structures were built in Roman Times.

Wear comfortable shoes as some of the highlights require climbing steep paths and/or wooden planked stairs. There is little shade here during the day, so keep that in mind for warmer weather. No food/drink appeared to be available at the ampitheatre and the only items available for purchase were some post cards and booklets at the window where you purchase tickets.

“A wonderful amphitheatre!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

This is a little walk away from the main town of Trier, but well worth it. At the time we visited there were not many tourists. The underground is well preserved and quite spooky! The main arena holds recreations, which we didn't see, but did see advertised. A reasonable sized attraction to walk around, but not massive.

Worth the walk from trier central. A piece of history. Take time to read the history. Take an umbrella in case it rains.
