I have eaten here many times over the last few years, and Al Cortile's Pizza is simply awesome. Better than many Pizza's I ate in Italy and even near Naples. While the noodles are also excellent, they don't quite match the brilliance of the Pizzas. If you get a chance, try the Pizza "Tazi". Prices are very fair and location and ambiance are very nice. Only weak spot is that service can be very slow. When I ate here in March of this year, it took over two hours to complete a meal of app and entree, which is not ideal. Still gets my vote as best Italian resto in and around Mainz.

Nice atmosphere, right in Old Town. Good selection of Italian cuisine - pastas, pizzas and wines if you're interested. Good, friendly service and reasonably priced.

If you are in Mainz city centre and are looking for a decent Italian restaurant, then this place certainly is the best shot.
Food is relatively authentic for Germany. Tried both the pasta and the pizzas. Pasta was truly delicious, pizza was not all too Italian looking, too small and the pastry was a bit hard, probably not really oven baked but still very tasty. Just do not expect it to be like down in Napoli, but won't find any better in the city centre. Portions could be bigger and they are a bit pricey, they just know what they are in Mainz.
In summer they have a very nice garden that gives you some Italian touch. Crowded place so prepare to wait or reserve in advance.
