Spartan hotel, this is not the problem. The problem is that the hotel manager does not speak any other language than english, tried to charge me more, gave me a double room because he did not have a single room but was annoyed (it was not my fault!), charged me for the internet when there was a note in the room that the internet was free, the room was cold with no heating (when it was snowing outside), the shower was not working... do you want me to go on? For 85Euros per night, really, this was a bad, bad choice...

The Hotel Terminus is right opposite the Main Station in Mainz. It's a convenient location for exploring the city, Frankfurt or the Rhine valley.
The hotel is small and covers 5 floors. Our room was a twin-bedded room on the 4th floor. It was small but servicable. The en suite was about as small as you could get and would not be suitable for a larger person. The room cost just over 100€ with breakfast included, but it was during the Book Fair, when all prices in that area are a bit steep. It was fine for one night, but I don't thinl I'd want to stay there for much longer.
The old guy on reception was very friendly with a limited knowledge of English, but enough to get by. Breakfast was fine - the usual cold meats and cheeses adn fresh coffee.
Nice little Weinstube just round the corner to the left of the hotel.
