“Friendly staff and nice hotel”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

Stayed last weekend for three nights. Its a bit difficult to find in all the 1 way streets and you arrive at the turn in for the car park before the hotel but its signposted so keep your eyes peeled. The car park is charged at 1.5 euros per hour up to a max of 12 euros per day. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon and were checked in without much hassle, the staff were always friendly. I must say the staff in the restaurant always smiled and were very pleasant. The room was a large executive room for us and the 2 kids who slept on a sofa bed. The only problem being they didnt make up the bed the first night, but we phoned to reception and they brought up all the bedding. The room had tea and coffee facilities which were replenished as we used them. Another slight issue was the frosted glass toilet door, which doesn't shade the light from coming into the room, so you may have to go in the dark ! The breakfasts were brilliant and i would highly recommend it, buffet with hot and cold. cereal, cold meats, pastries everything you could want. Also the kids get a small toy as a gift.

Room Tip: we booked an executive room for more space

We stayed at this hotel in the dear little town of Mainz (beautiful old buildings, cobbled streets, wonderful central Farmers' market, lovely shopping, delicious food...and more. We love it.) for the second time because we had found it convenient, easy to get to from Frankfurt am Main International Airport and quite satisfactory 4 years previously, but this time we considered it only just alright and would definitely choose another next time sadly.
Alongside its positive attributes we would note its:
-fast and efficient check in
-reliable online booking
-reasonable tariff -(310 Euros for a 2 night stay for two in a queen bed room)
-free apples....
however, alongside these we would note these much less than pleasant aspects:
-the terrible stale cigarette smoke smell we strongly disliked in our 'nonsmoking' room which seemed to come out of the air con system -ugh and double ugh!
-the unreliable shower: hot, cold, hot cold. This, we think is completely unnecessary in this century of brilliant plumbing in any situation.
-the dangerous shower over bath arrangements: slippery surfaces, hard to step in and out of, and too high.
-the too well-used European style pillows (yuck) we only had one each of: smelly and too soft and not anything else in sight in the room: these days a choice is to be expected and new fresh ones necessary.
-supply of teabags -ok maybe this is pedantic -but we stayed two nights and had one English breakfast one, 2 Earl Greys and a 1 peppermint one. Mean or not checked by the housekeeper perhaps?
-noise -no need to hear your neighbours these days, Accor Group; we do not want to hear the next door TV programme. At all actually.

Next time we travel there, and I am sure we will, we will be looking at TA reviews to select a different place to stay.

reasonable cleanliness, The reasons for this were:

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

This hotel is well-located but we were disappointed with our stay. The poor front desk configuration (partly hiding reception staff behind signs) results in limited welcoming of guests as they come and go. In addition there was some evidence of poor training of staff - firstly it took three requests about internet access before I was offered a login and password. Then, on checkout, we weren't asked whether we wanted a taxi (fortunately we didn't as we were walking down the hill to the Mainz Hauptbahnhof). We felt somewhat ostracised when we opted for the "City Breakfast" as we were seated in the bar area away from other guests in the dining room - fortunately the breakfast itself was excellent. The room itself was large and clean but the furniture seemed to be more appropriate for a differently configured room than the one we had. Shower over the bath was a little difficult to use with only narrow foot room and the towels were too thin.

I had to stay at this hotel for a night recently. There is nobody to help with the luggage as you arrive. The women at reception were far from friendly at check in around 2100 hrs. The room was on the third floor was of a decent size. But the decor is out of an ikea catelogue circa 1990. The bathroom is small and very basic. The bed was low and the pilows are strange and square and full of polyster and not natural materials. There were stains on the carpet. The bed had no head board. There was stains on the wall and burn marks on the bed side table. No iron or ironing table in the room. The TV was placed in the corner and the curtains in front of it. So no matter what you did you got the curtains and the shears covering a corner of the screen. The aircon failed to work on warm evening I had not eaten and ordered room service - burger and fries. The burger tasted as if had been frozen cheap meat for ages and the fries were also precut french fries rather than freshly made. No breakfast or internet included in teh rate. No wi-fi in the rooms only Ethernet connection. Not very satisfying. Despite being a Accor hotel gold loyalty card holder no extra service or upgrade given. Think that I'll be giving this chain a miss next time. This is my second bad experience with Novotel branded Accor hoels.

Stayed here last week for a business trip. We used the meeting facilities for a day for a meeting of 8 people. I have to say that it is one of the first times that I have had a meeting in a hotel where everything worked with the projector. We had a whiteboard with markers that didn't run out and the room was well supplied with water and apple juice. 2 coffee breaks and lunch were included in the price. The price was €47 per head, which I thought was very reasonable.

The hotel it self is nice enough with comfortable clean rooms. The bar closed a little early for our liking though !!
