We stayed just one night in this hotel, as part of a cycle tour from Mainz to Cologne. We arrived quite late and left early, but were impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room, the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the buffet breakfast. There was free insecure parking undercover for bicycles.

This hotel is on a side street in a residential neighborhood of Mainz-Weisenau. We knew going in that this hotel was not in downtown Mainz but is close. There is a bus stop that will bring you downtown just around the corner. There is a Lidl and a Real just around the corner as well. You can walk to the river path by going directly downhill to the river and crossing the pedestrian bridge or you can walk through the Volkspark to the edge of downtown and follow the signs. I recommend the second as it is lovely.

For the hotel itself, the staff are amazing. They speak fluent English and are willing to help and answer any question you have. The hallways are a bit dated but the rooms are in great condition. We had a double with a large bathroom and a small area to put your shoes on next to the closet. The staff did try to "upgrade" us to a larger room but the window did not open and the room smelled a bit musty. Without a hitch, they moved us to the room we were in which was a little smaller.

The parking is free and on the property.

The pool is in the basement and was well maintained. They even have a few aqua aerobics classes during the week. I must have misunderstood about the fitness as they do not have any cardio equipment that I could find.

There was adequate space to change and towels provided at the pool. There was a sauna.

The breakfast was in the lobby restaurant. It was traditional German with meats, cheeses, bread/rolls, fruit, muesli etc. We were not offered eggs, even when we asked. There was no sausage either. The second morning there was a large group there and the staff put out a larger selection of items including a large salad.

There is a nice soccer field next door with a great family restaurant. In fact, we ate there both nights we stayed at this hotel. Great German food for a great price.

We would definitely stay at this property again.

I stayed in this hotel in the last week of March and found it a good enough hotel. It has a swimming pool which I did not visit and free parking was included on the stay as well as breakfast. If you want to go to the center you can catch the 62 bus which is very near of the hotel.
It is not as luxurious as the Hyatt (far from it) as it is a three star hotel. The staff were very efficient in the check in and check out and were very helpful at each question asked.
The room was clean but there was no TV in my room and there was a bottle of water with a price tag of 3,5 euros :).
I would give a 3,5 stars because of these last two lines.

Room Tip: Buty the water in the market near of the hotel :).

I stayed in this hotel the night before I had to catch a flight out of Frankfurt. it is not near anything of interest but was only 15-20 minutes from the airport. We were there on a weekend night and hardly anyone else was staying at the hotel,. It appeared to cater to business travelers. We got a 3 person room which was huge compared to usual rooms in Europe. Room was very clean and there was a nice balcony to sit on at the end of our hallway. Nice indoor pool with suana. the breakfast was a nice buffet with suasages , bacon, cereals, fruits, jams yogurt ...and made to order eggs. Very nice hotel to stay in if you have a flight out of Franfurt.

I stayed at the Gunnewig Hotel Bristol Mainz in April 2005 and enjoyed my stay. I was hoping to get into a hotel near the city center but everything was booked so I took a chance on this hotel which is located in the middle of nowhere.

It ended up being a great little hotel, and was convenient for my business trip, but it was nowhere near anything of interest. I wondered why they would even build a hotel where they did, as it is right in the middle of a completely residential neighborhood.

The staff was always friendly, and pretty much everyone spoke English and was helpful when I asked for assistance. The restaurant had a very limited menu, and the food was ok. Unfortunately, there aren't many choices nearby so if you don't have your own transportation you'll probably get very familiar with the menu. Breakfast is the exception, as they have a great buffet with endless breads, meats and cheeses for making small sandwiches.

I probably wouldn't stay here again unless the Mainz city center hotels are booked (Hilton, etc.) but I did enjoy my stay and it was a nice change to stay in a residential area. A word of advice if you're going to be staying in or around Mainz - BOOK EARLY!!!
