Very friendly reception staff with excellent language skills. Clean, recently modernised bedroom which was VERY quiet and air conditioned. Good breakfast but be aware there is no restaurant for dinner here - the reception staff will help you choose a local restaurant though.

Hotel Hammer sports an excellent location just across from the main railroad station--and thanks to brand-new double thermal pane windows (= 4 sheets of glass!) it is absolutely sound proof. (Don't worry--there is AC for the summer when you don't want to open the window). The rooms have recently been totally renovated; more renovations will begin this July on a lower floor. Breakfast was more than adequate (although I missed a slice of lemon for my tea ...).

The entire staff is very helpful, attentive, solicitous--it was good to interact with all of them.

Overall a most enjoyable stay at a very compatible price.

It has all you need for a short stay. Extremely clean, newly refurbished rooms with interesting style, very good breakfast and 2 mins walk from Mainz HBF. Price positioning in line with quality of European 4-star hotel. For those visiting Frankfurt or travelling through FRA, this can be an excellent overnight choice.

Hopped off flight from Korea, straight onto the local train from Frankfurt Airport, and in about an hour was checked in at this cosy, ultra clean hotel in the surprisingly lovely little city of Mainz. An unusually well appointed and sized bathroom for a European Hotel. Very comfortable beds to recover from jet lag. Despite the busy train station forecourt and bus and tram interchange on the hotel doorstep, no noise in room with double glazing. Short walk to the charming town centre, and cheap bicycles available if so inclined. Breakfast tasty and adequate and great value at €5. In room satellite had expensive list of television and radio, but nothing in English apart from BBC News.

This was the most expensive hotel we stayed during our recent trip, but it was worth it. I cannot say enough good about the staff: always very helpful, good humored and extremely knowledgeable. The location was terrific: directly opposite the main train station, which enabled us to get back quickly after several day trips to other towns in the region. Breakfast was included in the room rate (117 euros per night) and it was an excellent breakfast,

The room was spacious, especially compared to the other rooms where we stayed during this trip. I could hear no ambient noise from outside, so we slept great. If you travel with a computer, the in-room television has VGA, HDMI and other connections to connect your computer. The free wifi was excellent with a strong signal. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel has been recently renovated and the rooms are spectacular. I have travelled extensively and my room at the Hammer is one of the nicest I have stayed in (including many 4 & 5 star hotels). The staff are very friendly and helpful, the entire hotel is spotless and the breakfast is pretty good. The location is across the street from the train station which is ideal for travelers as well as being only a 15 minute walk to Mainz's amazing downtown.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a greater view of the historic train station

very happy we came across this hotel. group of friends and family stayed here for a family wedding. Staff were very good, helpful, friendly. Rooms were good size, nicely decorated with really comfortable beds/bed linens. Free wifi. Buffet style breakfast hot and cold - good spread, could have been replenished a bit more at times we noticed over four mornings, sometimes not replenished at all which meant later risers had less choice. Stand outs: on the positive side, pre booking enquiries were promptly and courteously addressed including the request for an in-room nespresso machine (which i suspect they got specially as looked brand new); only negative was the glass door to the bathroom which didn't really give sufficient privacy etc. Rooms to the front overlook the rail station and plaza; its noisy at night but not a problem with the sound-proofed windows and AC. If like us you can't take AC and like the windows open, then a couple of wax earplugs did the job. Overall very good hotel, would recommend and go back.

Room Tip: premium double with a bed-sofa is a good size and choice for couples staying more than a night or tw...
