“Good food but do not come if you are in a hurry”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We have been there with a group of 15 people and despite a booking were seated at 2 different tables. The first table was served desert when the second did not even get the starters despite that we all ordered together.

“Don't miss this fantastic restaurant”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Recommended by the Atrium hotel staff, dining at this restaurant was a pleasure. After being warmly greeted, we started our meal with complimentary bread served with 2 flavored butters and a parmesan porcini spread. We shared the appetizer of the day which was fresh thinly carved tuna topped with sea salt, black pepper, fine olive oil, and shaved black truffle. This was prepared tableside by the owner. The wine recommendation was perfect and our dinners were delicious. We finished our meal with a special heated dessert, also made tableside. The atmosphere is charming and the live piano music was a very nice touch. The owner and waiters were friendly and skilled. Very reasonable prices considering the quality. Easy to get to from Mainz - the 55 or 58 bus to Finthen practically drop you off at the door. It's within walking distance of the Atrium Mainz Hotel. We were extremely happy to find this restaurant.

“The best Italian restaurant in town”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

Il Mondo is situated in Mainz-Finthen some 6 km from the city centre. In a nice little house. Reservations are necessary as seats or tables are very limited. In summer you can sit outside. Food is absolutely delicious. Recommendations from the chef change daily.

“The best Italian restaurant in Mainz”
Reviewed November 24, 2011

They serve the best pizza and the most authentic Italian dishes in Mainz. In recent times closely followed by another restaurant located in the city centre that is catching up.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, a bit on the heavy side though, and proudly displaying a number of pictures of some well-known people among their customers.
The choice of dishes is large and prices are appropriate to slightly pricey. Some dishes are very fine, like the lasagna Casanova, the Sicilian pizza. Courageous people should try the mamma mia pizza.
Waiters try to confer stylishness to the place as they are well aware of the importance of their duty. Sometimes they do a bit too much of it. Do not need this to feel like in Italy, there is more likable aspects to the country.
The restaurant is on a busy road, but you will forget this once you are inside. However, as an owner I would consider moving the restaurant to a different, more central location. May be they have their local customers, but still.
