Having checked on the map we realised this country pub was off the beaten track. We found the reception and the bar/food area had an old fashioned ambiance. We were staying here for one night so ate in the hotel. Rather than eat in the restaurant we ate in the bar food seating area which served exactly the same menu. The menu had a lot of variety, the food was very fresh and delicious, with a good choice of wine and beer. Breakfast next morning was also excellent - cereal/fruit/yogurt, toast and about 6 choices of cooked breakfast.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. In the winter it would be very snug sitting in the leather suite in front of the fire in the bar, book in one hand and a drink in the other.
We stayed in room 6 which was over the front section of the hotel. The room as mentioned in the details was on the small side but offered everything. The en-suite, with a sliding door, had a shower, basin and toilet, full bottles of wash and shower gel with a container of cotton wool and buds. The bed was on the firm side, which we prefer, side tables had drawers and lights, there was a medium sized wardrobe with a surface next to it with a kettle and tea/coffee/hot chocolate, milk and biscuits. There was a hairdryer at the end and a mirror above. Everything was very clean.
The walls are so thick that the window sill creates a lovely seating area, with the window slightly open so you can look at the countryside.
A great overnight stay.
