“Pleasant country pub with old fashioned ambiance.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

Having checked on the map we realised this country pub was off the beaten track. We found the reception and the bar/food area had an old fashioned ambiance. We were staying here for one night so ate in the hotel. Rather than eat in the restaurant we ate in the bar food seating area which served exactly the same menu. The menu had a lot of variety, the food was very fresh and delicious, with a good choice of wine and beer. Breakfast next morning was also excellent - cereal/fruit/yogurt, toast and about 6 choices of cooked breakfast.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. In the winter it would be very snug sitting in the leather suite in front of the fire in the bar, book in one hand and a drink in the other.
We stayed in room 6 which was over the front section of the hotel. The room as mentioned in the details was on the small side but offered everything. The en-suite, with a sliding door, had a shower, basin and toilet, full bottles of wash and shower gel with a container of cotton wool and buds. The bed was on the firm side, which we prefer, side tables had drawers and lights, there was a medium sized wardrobe with a surface next to it with a kettle and tea/coffee/hot chocolate, milk and biscuits. There was a hairdryer at the end and a mirror above. Everything was very clean.
The walls are so thick that the window sill creates a lovely seating area, with the window slightly open so you can look at the countryside.
A great overnight stay.

I stayed for a couple of nights with my wife and 11 year old daughter. They put a small bed in the already small room for our daughter and it was therefore quite cramped. However, the room and facilities were clean and adequate but in my opinion, it was over priced. As we were visiting a nearby family gathering, we had little choice to stay. The breakfast was well presented and although we didn't have a full cooked breakfast we were still charged the full going rate (something of a con that most hotels and B&B's operate). There is ample parking to the rear of the property. Apart from a light breakfast, we didn't use the restaurant so can't comment on it.

Room Tip: Matters not as it is in a separate block at the back of the pub with your own entrance via the back...

My husband and myself stayed 2 nights at the Thelbridge Cross Inn and as mentioned in previous reviews it is quite remote. There is nowhere you can walk to on an evening so you would need the car to get to the next village. The weekend we went the weather was not good so we were more than happy to eat and drink there on both evenings. The prices for the food were more like restaurant prices not pub prices, but we were not disapointed by the selection and quality. The breakfasts were really tasty and freshly cooked. Our room was quite small and the floor in the bathroom creaked badly but this is an old building so it is to be expected, however it was clean and comfortable. Ria and the staff were friendly and provided a good service so all in all a very relaxing break.

Room Tip: We were in room 4 this looked out to the side of the inn onto the road that leads to the large carpa...

From the brochure we expected an old fashioned country pub with lots of atmosphere in the bar. Unfortunately this was not the case as the property is so isolated there are no "locals". Our room was clean and comfortable albeit small. There were no nice toiletries only a big half empty bottle of shower gel and a big bottle of handwash. Luckily we had brought our own. The bed was a back breaker - the worse we had been in for a while. We found the staff very pleasant and the food was good quality. The breakfast was the tastiest one of our week. Overall a very average place to stay, just lacking attention to detail. We never saw the landlord as he was watching football.

The Thelbridge Cross Inn is literally in the middle of nowhere, about 15 mins from Tiverton and 25 minutes from Crediton. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome, no nonsense about registering a card for payment, just the keys to our room. Room 1 is quite small but perfectly adequate for a couple. It had a small but clean ensuite with ample clean towels & complimentary toiletries. There is a wall mounted flat screen tv, tea & coffee making facilities and a couple of bottles of mineral water. If I had one complaint about the room, the floor in the room above is very creeky, but this certainly wasn't a problem. The bar area is very traditional in every sense, furnished with a very comfortable suite, around a very efficient wood burner. The bar staff were very friendly and efficient, with drinks at reasonable prices. Our meal in the delightful restaurant area was fantastic. A very diverse menu, excellent specials board, included the traditional and the not so traditional! Everything tasted fresh. This mornings breakfast was again a simple but extremely tasty, freshly cooked affair, a lovely full English preceded by a trip to the cereal buffet. All in all the Thelbridge Cross Inn offers excellent value for money. It's in a perfect position as a base while exploring Devon and is an excellent place to relax and recharge at the end of the day.

We stayed at the Thelbridge for a weekend as we were attending a family christening at this venue aswell. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed including a hairdrier-which was decent. The staff were very helpful and the log burner gave the Inn a cosy feel. The breakfast was very good, not greasy and cooked/presented well. The evening meals and the food at the Christening was excellent gorgeous crispy roast potatoes! And extra gravy! Couldnt be faulted- give it a go

Room Tip: upstairs and i think it was room 7 had a bigger bathroom and shower

As an experienced travelling couple, my wife and I were very impressed by the warm welcome and delicious food offered by the Thelbridge Cross Inn. The inn is tucked away in quiet countryside but well worth the effort of finding it. Anyone eating there should insist on having the delicious roast potatoes - even with a salad!

Room Tip: All rooms are relatively free of traffic noise
