I went to Kaiserslautern for a conference. The conference was organised by the Fraunhofer institute. As the Hotel Zollamt is in walking distance I chose to stay here.
The hotel is situated in a quiet part of the city and is relatively close to the train station. For those coming by car, like me, there are a few parking spaces in front of the hotel, especially for guests.
The hotel itself is a nice and cozy family-run hotel. As I was travelling alone, I took a one-person bedroom. Although not very big, it was more than enough as I only needed to sleep there. The rooms are equipped with wired (not wireless) Internet access. You do have to pay extra if you want to use it. I only have remark about the room and that is that the power connectors (for TV but also Internet connector) were located on the wall next to my bed. So if I didn't watch out I would accidentally bump my head against the (bulky) power-connector of the lamp while lying in my bed (see picture).
The breakfast buffet was good, but nothing special. Everything from plain bread to baked eggs and sausages were available and everything was freshly prepared.

The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, so if you want to have dinner you need to go to the city center. This is about 20 min. walking. A little closer is a nice "bierstube" which also serves some local dishes at a very affordable rate.

One note for the soccer fans: the stadium of the local club 1. FC Kaiserslautern is closeby. So if you want to have a look at this very nice stadium, you can just walk there.

All in all, a very nice hotel, with very friendly personell and nice rooms.

Stayed at this hotel on business in April/May. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to accomodate our irregular working hours. It has a very stylish dining room and breakfast is excellent with a good variety. The rooms were fairly basic but clean and functional (good shower etc).
Parking was never a problem for us even though we had a number of cars - there was always space on the road outside the hotel if not in their parking spaces.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I was back in the area.

From Check In to the Lack of Check Out-- this hotel failed on all events. The Front Desk is NOT Friendly- they say they are staffed all night but at the click of 11pm they are GONE. I got back after dinner - went to connect to the internet but you have to get a code from the Front Desk-- they are GONE so no code so I never got to do my emails. Left at 6am for meeting and check out--- NOBODY there to be found. The Pillows are TINY, there are no facecloths in the bathrooms, there is NO clock in the room so be very prepared when you go and when you stay on the 4th or 5th Floor-- be aware the elevator stops at the 3rd. They change the doors at 11pm and you have to use another entrance, be careful when you leave at night if you are single and a female- it is dark and on a side street. Parking if you have a car-- 4 slots-- I had to park 3 blocks away on the street in the rain! It has been two weeks and I can not get a copy of my folio but they charged my room 3x on my credit card, when you call the hotel and I tried 4 times-- the have yet to answer the phone. My advise-- STAY AWAY from this place!!!
