We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and had a cell with a large window and private bathroom [ could not think of having one with a shared facility] The hotel was absolutely quaint and more than anything else it was the thought that we are in a prison block/cell and our room was an officer's room rather than a proper cell. Since it was not peak season the hotel was not full so that added to the silence and eerieness of the hotel. The rooms were well furnished, simple and elegant and the staff was hardly to be seen. The breakfast was sufficient with a lot of German goodies. The merchandise from the SFO Alcatraz was so overpriced so try not to bother, especially if you have been to the island in California. Overall an experience you do it to have done it. Would I go again, well probably, if need be but then Kaiserslautern is not the top of my holiday list so not sure when it will be again.
