On a Germany visit, steak was needed and apparently Gauchos was the best in the area. Definitely an upmarket steak house with modern sleek decor quite unlike the traditional rustic steakhouses I am used to. Hadn't booked for a Tuesday visit, but shown efficiently to table and drinks duly ordered. Good first impressions then.
Some delays then follow. Order not taken for a while, then some bread arrives; very nice it was, but soon gone and no sign of steaks, and no explanation either. Restaurant busy, but not full.
Takes over an hour for food to eventually arrive. No real explanation, other than promises that it was coming soon, even though it was clearly not even being cooked. Drinks keep being offered, but we need food.
The steaks are good when they come, but not great. Nice flavour but not to the standard of the best Argentinian steaks. Sides are OK, but nothing special. Salad bar was good, but one trip for €5 seems steep.
Too late for puds so we head off. One of my party speaks German and they discover as we leave that 3 staff have called in sick and they had a big private party and were busier than usual, which led to us being very delayed.
Sadly they handled this very poorly and should have either explained the delays as they happened, or turned away some customers to be able to manage. An offer of schnapps once we had paid was not enough for them to recover. I am sure we visited Gauchos on an off day, but so many of the issues could have been defused by being open about what was happening. We may well have gone elsewhere, but their reputation would be intact still!
