It's amazing how tapas can make you enjoy every bite, food is simply delicious and choices are so many.
Burning chorizo is as delicious as nice looking on fire...
Ps. This place is renamed as Gaudium

While being on holiday in the south of holland, we decided to go for tapa's. The local one only had set menu's, so after having a look on Tripadvisor we decided to go to Monchengladbach to visit El Abanico. After getting there, an important piece of info popped up: (another user already mentioned it) El Abanico is under new management and has a new name: Gaudium. (it's not packed with spanish restaurants, so it's not hard to miss, but it's useful to know).
We arrived on a thursday at 6 and the place was near empty. So we had all the attention from the waiter, who was more than helpfull. The menu is extensive with plenty of choice for anyone and everyone.
While waiting for the food, we got a basket of bread and olives, which we finished pretty quick, so when the first tapas arrived, the waiter (without asking for it) got us some more bread.
First round of tapas ranged from pretty ok, to more than good. Upon request we had kid's meals for the kids (which were a tapas of coice with chips (fries) and salad). 2nd round of tapas (the first round was good enough to order a 2nd round), which was even better than the 1st round! The chorizo was set on fire at the table, which was great for the kids (as well as for myself) and tasted great! The cocktails were excellent too (not even because of the fact that they are large and cheap).
Now for the best part: the bill. We didn't hold back and had more than enough food including icecream for the kids and the grand total was 65 euro's. All and all a worthy trip and certainly value for money and a place I'd like to go back to. Don't expect haute cuisine, fine dining, or top of the range furniture, but then again, it's tapa's.....and good one too!

A good range of quality tapas; rare in NRW. Usual choice of hot and cold dishes, including mixed plates. One smoking and one no-smoking room last time we went.
