“This place made us feel like in heaven!”

I have been able to travel all around the world, on the most exotic places that you can not imagine. But when we visited el Cuyo, i was breath taken and experience the unexpected.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a weekend getaway, we live in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.. so we decided to go and have an adventure and drive into this place call El Cuyo...we had never been there before so we didn’t know what to expect.

With the new highway to Merida, we did only 1 hour and half to el Cuyo... SO CLOSE and easy to get there!

Once we arrived to El Cuyo, we were looking for a place to stay.... so we went closer to the beach to see what we can find.
As we drove, we stop a very nice lady and ask her if she knew a place we can stay, her name was Magaly... she immediately said to us, of course come with me! So then we met Christian, (Magaly´s husband) a very kind gentleman that guided us into this magical place called : Hacienda El Cuyo... as soon as we open the apartment, we knew we were staying there! The beds were confortable, the apartment its fully equipped and most importantly with air conditioner!

The beach is completely virgin, we were the only ones on the beach! White sand, comfortable sun deck chairs, bonfire set up and gorgeous view! So private, so quiet, so beautiful ... completely disconnected from our routine!
After we settle, we went downtown, as we were looking to buy some fresh fish.... we highly recommend you to find this guy named “EL PATO”, he is very popular within the local people... everybody recommended us to find him, as he will be able to give us some fresh shrimp and fish to cook on the bonfire!
After a very fun experience of cooking on a bonfire... we sat and relax and watch the stars – absolutely amazing!
Overall Hacienda el Cuyo offered us exactly what we were looking for, to spend some quality time and get away from the city. This place should be on your bucket list!

“Wonderful Stay--Beach is Pristine!”

We had a wonderful trip to Hacienda El Cuyo, and I was able to fully unplug and recharge from my normally demanding work schedule! I went with my husband, my parents, and my sister and her family for about 10 days of fun in the sun, snorkeling, and visits to nearby Mayan ruins. The beach is pristine--not clogged with seaweed and hundreds of people like the Cancun area--and the small town has a relaxing, friendly vibe. The town is very safe and it's easy to get to if you rent a car or take the bus. The house is clean and well located, with a perfect view of the beach from the back door, where we often spent time on the outside terrace. Magally, the housekeeper, and her husband Cristian, who helps maintain the house, are very nice and stop by daily to check to see if you need anything. When we had a minor confusion about the air conditioning, they were quick to help us out, and they brought extra towels and other things we requested. This is also an ideal location for going on a variety of excursions, such as to see the nearby whale sharks. We went out to Isla Holbox and did a day excursion where we snorkeled with whale sharks, saw manta rays, sea turtles, and other incredible wildlife. El Cuyo is basically located in the middle of a nature preserve, so you'll likely see flamingos as you drive across the bridge to enter the town, and we saw dolphins frequently while we were there. My sister and her oldest son went on a morning fishing trip arranged by Cristian, and caught 5 or 6 large fish, which we cooked one evening. We also took day trips to Ek 'Balam (mayan ruins), Chichen Itza (UNESCO world heritage site/mayan ruins) and to swim in some of the cenotes in the area. Overall, the vacation was incredible and it is ideal for travelers who want unspoiled beaches in Mexico without leaving the comfort and safety of the Yucatan Peninsula

great that you had such a wonderful time in el cuyo and our Hacienda and Casa Maya Lodge with your entire Family. Also great to see that you loved the small village and the secluded ambiance there...it really is different than cancun or the Mayan Riviera...

“A quiet spot away from the tourist crowds”

We really enjoyed our time in El Cuyo. The beach house was just fine, and pretty much what we expected; a bit rustic but beautiful and well suited to our needs. After seeing the other suites, we appreciated being upgraded from the Penthouse, which would have also been fine, but smaller than we expected. For a couple like us, the second level suite would have been perfect. We didn't use the TV or need the internet, so we can't comment on these things. The town's electricity was out for part of a day, but that was also of little consequence for us as walking on the beach and taking pictures of pelicans and flamingos only took walking power!

We were hoping for a bit of "quiet time", and El Cuyo was exactly what we needed. We actually spotted it on the plane coming into Cancun! The caretakers Christian and Magally were very helpful. Maggally cooked a meal for us that was delicious. We also saw their home and met their children, which gave us some appreciation for how their lives are.

“We enjoyed Hacienda del Cuyo, and we will be back..”
Reviewed October 15, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The Hacienda of del Cuyo is a very nice vacation home, directly on the beautiful and secluded beach 2 hrs 45 min away from Cancun in  a village called,  El Cuyo. It is by far the most beautiful house in the area . We had the penthouse apartment for our stay. The penthouse is very spacious (approx. 80 m ²) and has offered us (2 persons) more than enough space. In the kitchen, everything is there, there is a cosy sitting area with Sony Home Theater (TV + surround sound system), the balcony is large and contains a  nice sitting and dining area The bathroom is large and it has even a bathtub next to the shower. the house and the grounds were all very clean. To the beach you just go down and around the House and  you can enjoy the beautiful  beach with its white sand and the quiet sea. there are more than enough lounge chairs and  there is even a small fireplace.
Overall, it is a dream  spot for all who want to spend a quiet beach vacation away from the crowded beaches off Cancun and the Mayan Riviera in a beautiful and safe area like El Cuyo.  We've got a lot of good infos  from the Landlord , and if we had any questions, he was immediately available Whatsapp or email.
We will come again, thumps UP!

3rd time in El Cuyo and loving it!!!

We had a wonderful Family reunion in El Cuyo at Hacienda del Cuyo...for the 3rd time already.
Year after year, the owner adds something to the property to make it even more cosy and quaint.
We flew into Cancun, rented a car, did some grocery shopping in Walmart and drove the 2,5 hrs to El Cuyo.
The caretaker Magally was greeting us upon arrival and shortly after that we enjoyed our first Margarita on the beachfront terrace.
This year we noticed that the home got a fresh paint job inside, the staircase outside was remodeled in mexican Talavera Style, all 3 beach terraces got new tiles in colonial Hacienda look and the bathrooms had also nice Talavera Ornaments since we last visited in 2013.
Its obvious that the owners take good care of the Place and you notice the love to detail everywhere.

We swam in the ocean, collected seashells, saw dolphins, did the Whaleshark tour over in Holbox, rode around in Golfcarts, checked out the newly built Fishing pier with pedestrian area...wow, you can buy fresh fish from local fishermen there, very inexpensive.
Also we did a day trip to the Chichen Itza and Ek balam ruins, and the colonial town of Valladolid with its famous Tequila factory. We felt again very safe, and the locals are so friendly and helpful, and cant do enough for you.
The caretakers prepared us delicious lobster meals,( i will add some fotos)..and we only went a few times into the small restaurants of El Cuyo that had local mexican flavor.

We loved it again what can we say. And in comparison to Cancun or the Mayan Riviera,..very refreshing and off the beaten track, we will be back!

“relaxing from the first second on!”
Reviewed June 24, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

My family joined in while we travel the Americas and we chose to take a break at the Hacienda el Cuyo in el Cuyo. The contact with the owner was super friendly and he always replied within a few hours. The house is beautifully kept and is well worth the money. To sit on the terrace and just look at what is around you makes you think you are in paradise. We had bought groceries on our way up and never had to leave the house for the whole week. Fish and seafood could be bought from the housekeeper. Also anything else one could need would be availabel through him. We were so happy during our stay, going in and out of the water, relaxing, peacefully laying in the hammock or in the beach chairs. It is worth to pay the extra money to be in the beach front property! it is true that it is secluded, but we knew about that and WANTED it that way. The only negative point is, that upon arrival we could not show a printed version of the confirmation, so we weren't given some of the things that are -from our reading in their information booklet- included. But since we are long term travellers, we had everything with us in our car. If one should really need an internet connection while there, check with the owner that the stick is available, when we were there, someone had rented it.
The property, the staff, the location, the fresh seafood, the weather, the beach, i can't recommend it highly enough, it's heaven!
