“Luxury hotel for a low budget price”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

For the price of 69 euro a two person room in the middel of the city centre of Essen.
The hotel is very new (2011 or 2012 i think) and you can that its build to make a very comfortable place for city visitors.

The rooms offer a lot of space (incl. televison, two single beds who act like a two persons bed, couch, aircondition, great comfy shower).

It al looks perfect, it all looks new and clean. Located at the Kennedyplatz in the middle of the city centre of Essen. The hotel offers a nice place to have a drink too.

Only con i found so far: airconditioning was not working. I guess it's just bad luck.
Free internet in the lobby, free internet in your room if you order breakfast during your stay (7.5 euro p/p).

Stayed in the Hotel for two nights. Great location in the centre of Essen. Within walking distance of the train station which has great connections to Dusseldorf and the airport. No restaurant but several good eating places within walking distance. The room was adequate although maybe a bit small for two people who intend to stay for a couple of nights. Staff were very attentive and recommended some good restaurant

for a one night business trip it was fine. Wouldn't want a romantic weekend here or to stay here more than 2 nights.

The reception area is very nice, and when we got to the room it was very spacious. Then we realised why. There is hardly any furniture! You get a large comfortable bed, a tiny table serving as desk, a chair and that is it. There are three small shelves and a small open hanging area with five hangers.

So would I go there again? Yes!

For a short trip you have everything you need. As long as you don't want to unpack your shipping trunk the shelves and hanging area are fine. The shower room is small, but functional.

Top tip: the shower is open so the mirror steams up really quickly. Use the (provided) hair dryer to de-mist the mirror.

Motel one have re-thought the needs of the traveller and instead of trying to be a downmarket luxury hotel, they have focussed on what you really need for a short stay. The furniture count is low, but what is there works. One complaint. You need a bedside space to put your watch and phone on while you sleep. Even a small shelf would do.

The breakfasts are fine, fresh rolls every day. The orange juice is not freshly squeezed if that matters to you.

Wi-Fi: what can I say. Most European hotels charge through the nose for this. Motel one includes it in the breakfast package. You can only have one device online at a time, so if you have three wifi devices like me (Laptop, phone and kindle) you have to choose. The login is slow and you have to go through it every time. Surely they can find better technology than this. After all the cost to the hotel is tiny.

The location is sensational on Kennedyplatz.
