“Nice hotel, great breakfast”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

We spent two nights at this hotel, last weekend, and because we didn't pay a lot for it, I was not sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Since this was a theme-park trip for us, we only needed the hotel to sleep, shower and eat in the morning, which was perfect for us.
It's a nice hotel, with friendly staff, and nice ammenities.

The room had one large bed, and one couch, which was also good to sleep on. We had an extra blanket and an extra pillow that we found in the drawers.
All the information about the hotel was available in the hotel room, the wake-up call was easy to ask for, and there was even shoe-shine available :)

Breakfast was great! It's been a long time since I had such a wide variety of items for breakfast : white and brown bread, toast, brioche, all kind of meats and cheese, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, little saucages, bacon, more then five kinds of cereal, fresh fruit, three kinds of orange juice, wide variety of tea, pineapple, watermelon, all kinds of different nuts, you could even bake your own waffles!
We enjoyed breakfast a lot, and it was a good start of our day.
There was even the possibility to take a 'coffee-to-go', when you left breakfast, so you could still enjoy a cup of coffee in your room, or on your way. Unfortunately, we like tea more, but couldn't change the coffee into tea...

One night we took a little dip in the inside (heated) pool, which was also very nice. The water was about 21°C. The pool was not big, but enough to relax after a busy day, swim a little bit, or just sit on the border. We didn't try the sauna, and I was dissapointed by what they call the 'solarium'. Seemed like that was only two chairs, next to the sauna, and that was it. They had extra towels available, so that was good.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised about this hotel, and if we would need to stay in that area again, I would surely go back or recommend it to friends or family!

Oh, the only downside on this hotel was the elevator... never figured out why it seemed to skip our floor each time. But we were on the first floor, so we could take the stairs, no big deal for us.

Stayed here for one night as Essen and Dusseldorf were full.

The hotel is OK but quite souless. The room is very basic indeed, especially the bathroom with its plasticy shower curtain.

Staff were quite good, and the bar functioned well enough.

The harbour area is very pleasant.

It's a Mercure. they're all the same. So this was functional and efficient and the staff decent and helpful. Convenient, central and good value but not a place to get excited over.

Ok hotel - The price changes every nite at the Mecure. Quite often the price is too high for the value. Why does the price the rise so high when the hotel is full. The value for breakfast is okay 16 euros is quite high. How much can you eat.

The location is very easy to access by car or by train. This hotel stands in the heart of the city, but I could get a good sleep in the night without any noise outside.
