So, I had back to back trips to Bangkok and Dusseldorf. The food at Sila Thai lived up to Bangkok and in some instances surpassed the "original" cuisine. A delightfully spicy affair with lots of herbs and fresh seasonings - every dish brought a surprise. Treat yourself!

The first thing to say about this restaurant is that it is rather beautiful, the decor is gorgeous and the dim lighting adds to this creating a really nice feeling in the restaurant.
The second thing to say is that the service is just what you would expect from Thai staff, very polite and attentive.
Then we come to the food, it is actually very nice! it is authentic enough although maybe could be a little be hotter/spicier to make it truly Thai. The flavours are very nice and everything is presented really well.
The highlight of the food for me were the duck massman curry and beef Penang curry, both really flavoursome.
Price wise is say its just about right and I would definitely go again!

I went here after reading raving positive reviews , my expectations were pretty high.... So when I was greeted at the door with a sight of authentic thai ingredients I was more than hopeful of a good time here.
We ordered as follows :

Appetizer : chicken satay and seafood soup ( with coconut milk)

The satay - i hv had better from street vendors in thailand - the chicken was bland and was not marinated in the spices which it should have been , the peanut sauce was well peanut sauce making the satay sweet and warm - not what you imagine when you order satay ...

The soup was served lukewarm and missed any flavour but coconut milk , no spunk , the seafood was half cooked and vegetables in it were raw...

Main course :

1st dish: Massaman curry ( on the menu it states having pineapple in it !!!! ) since i know pineapple does not belong in massaman curry i asked to have this removed !
Very interesting is whatever curry you ask for , comes with choices of beef , chicken , pork ,duck ... This means the curry has already been prepared without meat in it so last minute when you order , the meat is boiled or heated seperately then dunked in the curry and warmed up before serving !!! Naturally as expected the meat hasn't quite caught on the flavour of the curry ! First time i see any thai restaurant doing this ... All curries are supposed to be slow cooked and the meat cooked ( read simmered in the curry for authentic taste !

Rice served along with this dish is a mixed wild rice - pretty ok to taste

2nd dish : duck in panang curry sauce

Same rule apllies as above , and there was paprika to be found in both dishes - i guess tht is what you get when you want to make thai a bit more european ?!

The rice we got was defenitely not thai jasmine rice , just some long grain rice ....

Very important point to note : the dishes flew out pronto ... Starter/appetizer - within 5 mins of ordering , main dish withinh 15 mins of ordering... The fast food concept compromises on the taste , I guess they just want to turn tables quickly ...

So dear friends if you have not been to thailand and want to amuse yourself with what could be thai and are not looking for authenticity in taste ( but everything else like the setting ) you can go here ...!
We however are used to the real deal and not to the germanized version of thai - so nope we won't be going back :)

A quality Thai restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere and great decor. We managed to get a table without booking but would suggest that you book ahead.
The staff were attentive, the food was scrumptious all in all a very good experience.

Have walked by this restaurant many times when visiting Dusseldorf and it has always seemed very busy. Having now visited had chance to visit and sample the food I understand why it is so popular.
Food was excellent and so tasty. Service was also extremely attentive and polite. The overall experience was very special and I will definitely recommend as well as return on my next trip to the city.
