Hotel Bismarck is a small hotel quite close to the hauptbahnhof. It has an old world charm to it and is furnished with some lovely antique pieces.
The lift is tiny and although it says it will hold 4 people or 300kg, we found 1 person with 2 suitcases was the limit. However, it was quick and taking the stairs is better for your health anyway!
The room was small but clean and comfortable. The most annoying thing about the bathroom was that the shower was over the narrow bath and the shower curtain kept sticking to you when it was wet. There was no noise from outside as we had a room away from the street so we could have the window open but we could hear other guests quite easily although that didn't disturb our sleep.
Breakfast was good with both hot and cold food. I found the WiFi terrible - dropping in and out all the time but apart from those couple of annoyances, I would recommend this hotel.

Like the title says. Staff was polite but without friendliness from the heart which we always love to experience when visiting a foreign city.
We first thought the girl must have a bad day but later that night and the next morning proved we were wrong as the rest of the staff acted exactly the same.
For instance we did not know every time you exit the hotel you have to leave the key behind. Somehow the receptionist wasn't able to communicate this in a way we wouldn't feel like a child.

The rooms are clean but the bathroom is very out of fashion and without any style.

Sorry we didn't like this hotel at all. And think you find better value for this money.

Hotel Bismarck is a type of accommodation I truly enjoy staying while travelling in Germany. Old-fashioned yet modern comfort. The room was a bit small but it got everything I needed.
Wifi worked very well. The breakfast was awesome ... the hotel was easy to find (a few min from the Central Station). I will definitely stay there again.

Three cheers for Trip Advisor reviewers. When looking for somewhere to stay in Dusseldorf I checked out the hotel reviews and chose Hotel Bismarck. It's everything you say - terrific service, marvellous breakfasts, lots of character and great value.
It's not going to suit businessmen who want instant free wi-fi and 24 hour room service - and that's fine by me, because that's the sort of hotel that could be anywhere in the world.
I was a bit worried about noise from the road, as our room was at the front, but the double-glazing was very effective and our sleep wasn't disturbed.
There's even a small swimming pool - but it's not heated (temperature 20C!). Very refreshing after a day's walking round the Alt Stadt, but not sure I'll try it later in the year when we come back for the Chrstmas markets.

Room Tip: Although there's a lift each floor also has a small flight of stairs, so check with the hotel if you have problems with steps, to ensure you get one of the rooms on the same level as the lift.

We arrived at 10:45PM, and the staff was friendly and helpful with check-in and parking options even though we were so late. The room was clean and had a bowl of fresh fruit options. The location was great; right next to the main train station and within easy walking distance of the old town and breweries.

The double bed was actually two twins, but it wasn't an issue, and the mattress, quilts and pillows were really comfortable. Our room faced the street, and we heard a bit of city noise, but still slept soundly.

The staff was accommodating and granted us a late check-out. The breakfast was complimentary and amazing!
