Serves typical German food, the way you would expect it. Usually full, but you can easily interact with the people (provided they speak English or you German). You can also ask to sit at a table, if there is some space.

As always, the Schumacher does not betray its reputation. Plenty of atmosphere, right in the middle of the Alstat. Excellent food (even though not much selection except for pork) and excellent beer too. The staff are friendly and very efficient. Reccomend that you book as you may end up waiting a long time !

We always enjoy both the food and bier at this good example of northern German cuisine. The alt bier is excellent as is the Schwein Haxen. We had the same waiter each time and he is efficient and humorous. Note: cash only unless the bill is over 100 euros

I was visiting Dusseldorf in a one day stop for business. After business was done, I started to look for a local German food joint, after walking some 20 minutes, we arrived to this wonderful place. The first impression was "this is the place where the locals eat traditional German food", and I was happily right!. The place was packed of old German fellas drinking Schumacher Alt (great beer!) and ordering salted pork shoulder, bratwurst, Goulasch, etc. I ordered a plate with a Bratwurst accompanied by potatoes and sauerkraut, my wife a beef Goulasch...both dishes to die for!!

Sevice was very good, only downside the will not take plastic (credit or debit) for less than 100 Euros.
