“Acceptable, near the train station”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

I found the front desk staff friendly and they held my luggage for me twice. The room was old, but the floors had been updated and the bathroom was clean. The price was good, especially considering that it included breakfast (29 euros for a single room through booking.com). The neighborhood is kinda sketchy (lots of porn theaters, etc), but it is only a few blocks from the main train station and Koenigsallee, the nicest shopping street in Duesseldorf. I'd stay here again if I needed a cheap place, but it is unremarkable. Only problem was that there is no air conditioning in the rooms (common in these parts), and when I left the window open to let air in, all I could hear was my neighbor's snoring and cell phones going off (not really the hotel's fault though). I guess everyone else wanted to leave their windows open too!

Heed those who said that this is a terrible hotel. My friend and I chose to ignore the reviews that were posted on tripadvisor.com. Most reviews warned us NOT to stay here.

Unfortunately we still went ahead with the room reservation. At first we thought that the reviews were mistaken; the rooms were clean, we were given clean towels, the bathroom was clean.

Then we requested for a late check out of 3 pm. That's when trouble started. The person we spoke to at the front desk said that it was OK for us to do a late check out until 3 pm. The person at the front desk even said "No problem" so we assumed that it was true. Because of that, we felt free to still roam around the city and got back before 3. Then their hotel manager told us that late check-out was until 12nn only. They moved luggage to the lobby really as if ready to put us out on the street (I don't know what else they touched or how they handled our stuff!)!! And the manager offered us the broom closet to change!!!

Checking our stuff now here at the airport, they threw out our stuff that were NOT in our luggage.

Then he disappeared (probably because he didn't think we were that important). He also they did not have a restroom, and I should go down to the other hotel down the street.

I felt so degraded and infuriated by the way they handled our situation, as if we were unwelcome, unpaying guests at their hotel. One of the staff said yes to the late check out, why couldn't they charge us extra instead? The manager did not even have the decency to stay and talk to us.

There are a lot of other hotels in the area (Ibis is at the Dusseldorf Hbf so that is a good choice). Check other hotels that give better service.

I booked only for one day trip from airport to the city. It was about that what i expectet, like a time trip back to -80, only that it was in use last 30 years. But you can see it in the price, breakfast was nice and i will use this hotel if possible next time.
It wasnt the cleanest place, but it was ok. you can find some stain on sofa etc, but bed was clean and nice.

The hotel location is excellent and just a few minutes walk from Duesseldorf central station! Although our room is quite small, it is comfortable and neat. Price is reasonable.

We stayed 4 nights during Medica 2011 that all hotels marked up on price too high. We paid around EUR302 per night during this period. The good point of this hotel is only close to the train main station. Small, dirty room and unreasonable price. Heater in bedroom was working but not quite warm. Meanwhile, heater in bathroom wasn't working. They tried to fix it but it still wasn't working. Breakfast didn't have much variety. Moreover, we left our baggages when we checked out and went out to do sightseeing. When we were back and asked them to use a toilet, they said the toilet in dining room was available in breakfast time only!!!!!!! Not recommend to stay this hotel at all. Pay more but you can get more good service and reasonable price.

The hotel manager is an unfriendly, ignorant and agressive person!
Furthermore he is lying and acts fraudulently.
I cannot believe, that he is working in the service industry.

I travel since 25 years around the world but I never had such a bad experience like at Plaza Hotel....it was horrible.
Never again!

I just can suggest:
Don´t stay there and give such a person money!
For that price, you can get better hotels in Düsseldorf.

I am a hotel professional myself, so I was a quite surprised to experience how basic tings regarding the booking and hotel management in general can go wrong.

We were a small group 6 people staying at the Plaza Hotel Düsseldorf. The hotel turned out to be centrally located as expected and somewhat reasonable.

Prior to arrival we requested an extra bed in our room for the first three of our 16 nights in the hotel. According to the hotel, all tripple rooms were fully booked and we were offered a single room insted of an extra bed. Our friend who would have used the extra bed found alternative accommedation. When we arrived we were checked in to a tripple room...! The hotel was almost empty for the first week, so this was obviously an attempt to sell an extra room in stead of an extra bed.

The hotel is an older hotel, which has had a minor makeover within the last 5-10 years or so. The public areas are fairly maintained, but clearly not new. The cleaning of the publlic areas is close to adequate, however the main starway between the ground floor and first floor is in desperate need of especially serious vaccuming or even better a new carpet. Several tropheys and photos from what seemed to be the hotel managers participation in poker tournaments decorated the public areas. Perhaps he even won the hotel in a tournament – he is clearly not a hotel professional.

Wireless Internet throughout the hotel is free of charge. If it works, that is! It is slow and unstable.

The rooms are adequately furnished, however poorly maintained. The beds were comfortable, but the linnen had holes in it and marks from bleach. Only one of three lightbulbs in the celing was working and only one bed lamp was working. The blue “stand by light” on the tv lit up the entire room which was really annoing. The telephone was not working.

The bathroom had no shower curtain and no holder for the shower. What a mess. All towels and bath mats were old, worn and even stained. And then I should not forget to mention – or warn against – the “Tricky Ricky” (?!?) showergel in the bathroom.

The hotel staff was friendly, but they had absolutely no idea about what customer service is and they spoke only very little english. The reception lost some rail tickets that other members of our group had left other group members to pick up there. These turned up later – too late.

Access to the hotel should – according to the reception staff – be possible 24 hours a day. However part of our group arrived at the hotel in the early morning a couple of times and they were greeted by a very grumpy and unpleasant hotel manager.

Breakfast was fair and there was a choice of cereals, youghurt, bread, jam and cold cut meats. The tables were rarely cleared, so we always experienced to come to breakfast in an untidy breakfast room. We often had to clear a table ourselves even though the hotel manager was rigth by the breakfast room all the time and had absolutely nothing to do.

The Hotel Manager is...! Should I just say, that I have never met a person within the hotel industry who just could not care less. Guests seems to be an annoying element of his business.

Our conclusion is that this hotel is a fairly reasonable hotel. Had the hotel manager only been interested in his guests, we would probably have been less likely to mainly notice “the holes in the chease”.
