Clean and bright room, excellent location, but stuff should work on their English. That is not objection, but suggestion. Hotel is modern and light; but restoran is completely opposite - dark and old.

This hotel is very nice. The rooms are clean and modern and gives you a good feeling better than your average 3 star hotel. The room included free internet and breakfast, which was a plus!

The staff was friendly and welcoming. We arrived late the first day and that was no problem.

The breakfast was good for a 3 star hotel. There was a mix of canned fruit, yogurt, cereals, croissants, and bacon & eggs. The problem was it seemed that they fill it early in the morning but once it gets eaten they don't refill things. By 9AM the eggs were all gone. Still I think this depends on the day.

The location is not bad for Düsseldorf but you are not in the historic Altstadt (old city). You are right off of Nordstr, which is a nice street with shops, and some nice restaurants. I used to live in Düsseldorf and this is one of my favorite parts of the city. To get the center you have to take a tram for about 10 minutes.

Overall I liked the hotel and the next time we go to Düsseldorf we will stay here!

Pros: Reasonably clean, good location, friendly reception staff (apart from the older man), quiet if you get a room at the back. Allowed us keep the room till 1.30pm on departure day without any problem. Our rooms were on 3rd floor - looked like floors one and two were a religious hostel and off limits to hotel guests. But not a problem.
Cons: Breakfast is in the pub next door - be early or the hot stuff is all gone and the coffee is cold. But cold fare was fine. Staff (young lady) very unfriendly - almost sullen. During the day and evening the pub does very good food (and beer!) but it STINKS of cigarette smoke. Everyone smokes. Pub staff very helpful and friendly. Not sure of relationship between hotel and pub. Our friends had a room at the front and didn't like the tram noise - see other reviews. No English TV channels in room - we didn't care but some might.

This hotel is generally clean , however, the level of detail to the cleaning of rooms could have been better. The rooms were not always dusted, cups/glassess were not cleaned daily and neither were teaspoons from the tea/coffee tray. Replenishment of the tea/coffee tray was also haphazard. In the breakfast room some spilt cereals remaind at the back of the counter for a couple of days and also on the floor. There were also quite a few small flies buzzing around the fruit bowl!

If you're unfortuante to get a room at the front of the hotel near to the road junction you may need some ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The cross roads is also a major cross roads for trams and they rumble on until a least midnight then start up again quite early in the morning. You could sleep with the window closed, but as there is no air conditioning in the rooms, this could be uncomfortable during the summer.

However, the nearby location of the tram stops does mean that the hotel is only a 10 min tram journey to the city centre and the altstadt (old town).

At €72 per night for B&B for two people, this was really good value. The hotel is basic, very clean, in a good location and with generally friendly staff. Breakfast was simple, plentiful and served in a bright clean dining area.
Only slight complaint was the lingering smell of cigarette smoke leaking from the attached pub. It appears that Germany has not yet faced up to the smoking lobby. But they will.
The hotel location is not very central (15 min walk to town centre) but it is very well served with the excellent transport system. Tram stop (4 different routes) at the door and with a day ticket for €5.20 you get unlimited travel.
One final good point - the bus from the airport (721) stops just down the road from the hotel - fare €2.20 - travel time about 15 minutes. And there's a bus every 15 minutes.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights after searching round for accommodation when on seeing our pre booked hotel we did not wish to stay in it. I would not personally have classed this hotel as 3 star but more of a business rep hotel. The gentleman on reception was very helpful when after first showing us an available room which was obviously a smoking one and unsuitable for us, then rearranged things to make available a non smoking room. He then offered to hold it for 2 hours while we went to arrange a settlement for checking out of our original hotel. The room was very basically furnished and the only available seating was 2 upright dining type chairs. However it was spacious and clean. The breakfast whilst not being a banquet was plentiful with a reasonable choice for the type of hotel. The only criticism was that the fruit was tinned. Although the hotel lacked a personal touch all the staff including cleaners, breakfast staff and reception were friendly and helpful when met. The hotel had an attached pub and sometimes the smell of smoke drifted into the public areas of the hotel. The attached photos were taken as we had just got up hence the crumpled bedding.
If you are looking for a good basic clean hotel at a reasonable price and ideally placed for public transport then the Stadthotel would fit the bill.
