“Fair Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

Centrally located small hotel, close to railway station amid Turkish restaurants and coffe shops. But still far eanough to avaid the peep show places. Looked like a quite safe area with mostly Turkish population. Tram station in front, metro just 5 min walking. Walking distance to downtown 20 min through the beautiful park along the Rhine river. Very friendly and helpful staff. For 50 EUR you hardly can get such a place in town. Clean rooms. Basic facilities.

Good things are, without any doubt, location, friendly staff, overall comfort and very convenient prices.

The breakfast is a bit expensive, but near the main station there are plenty of "kamps" where you can find something cheaper to eat. I also don't like the "moquette style" but this one seems pretty clean. Rooms are poorly lit and a little bit noisy, because the hotel is over a busy street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the fifth floor

I stayed here for two nights to visit the Christmas Markets. The hotel is 10 minutes from the main train station which makes it an ideal base if you intend to explore not only Dusseldorf but perhaps Cologne, Dortmund or the surrounding region. The neighborhood has inexpensive food outlets for sandwiches and a few mid-level restaurants and bars. The station has a McDonalds and other restaurants as well as a pharmacy(chemist), small grocery store, book store etc.. As others have mentioned, this is NOT a place where you spend 200 euro/night to have brand new furniture, large flat screen TV and a swimming pool. This is vey basic accommodation in a hotel built a few decades back....ideal for people who like to save money and are out of their room 12-16 hours a day and just need a clean, safe place to sleep. There are typical city sounds at night, like the occasional ambulance siren and car horn. My room was smaller than the dorm room I had in college, but the bed and bathroom (wc) were clean. The Free wifi Internet is wonderful, the staff are reasonably helpful about directions and general assistance. I don't go on holiday to watch TV or hang around in hotel rooms, but if you do then maybe you should pay more for amenities elsewhere. The breakfast is inexpensive and satisfying. Perfect for solo travelers but families may prefer somewhere with more facilities and larger rooms.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the bed size you require. A single is a true single meaning small with a single...

Basic hotel room in a building reconstructed from shards of the 1940s, and with a window on to a lightwell opening to other similar buildings.

The room was fine but bump-into-furniture small. The bathroom was clean. There's an elevator. The free Internet worked, It was an easy 10 minute walk (with luggage) from the Dusseldorf train station. Reception managed my (computer-timed) 6 am wake-up call. Indeed, the reception people were polite/helpful/spoke English to the extent that I needed this.

Would I stay another time? Yes, if I ever need again a room near the Dusseldorf rail station.

Very pleasant and OK stay at the Mondial.
Clean and nice hotel, basic standard, but for 2-3 nights its just fine. Location in town is great, and close to the train station, walking distance to city center and old town.
Friendly and very helpfull staff. Breakfast also OK.

Decent Wifi while I was there. But really another 2-star hotel in Düsseldorf pretending to be 3-star. See my Hotel Doerenkamp review.

If you don't own more than €50, you would not be a fool to stay here...

Stayed at the Hotel Mondial two times on separate occasions. It is quite convenient from the Hauptbanhof, an easy 3 blocks away. Though it's located along the tram line, it's quiet, especially rooms facing the inner courtyard.

The single rooms are small, like most hotels in Europe, but is comfortable and clean. The carpet and curtains are a bit old, but then all the rooms has that old look. Overall, a comfortable stay.
