We arrived on a Friday left on a Monday. We had a fun weekend exploring Düsseldorf. Front of house staff we extremely friendly and helpful. Our room which was not in the main building but at the quite block at the back ,was clean and comfey.Bed was a nice size and I slept well.Breakfast was good .It's not in the centre of town and the surrounding area isn't picturesque. However just outside is the tram and metro.
Both were frequent and reliable.Ten minute ride into the Centre.
Good stay ....would I go back?.If we returned for the Christmas market then yes. However we enjoy visiting and exploring different places. So the odd's are while we use the Mercure chain again it will be somewhere else.Downside?.Main restaurant was pricey, better value in town..That apart it was a really good stay.

A drab hotel with fairly spacious rooms but totally soulless - no character or style. The rooms at front are very noisy due to trams - so beware early wake up call. There are much better hotels in dusseldorf at this price level.

Dear Jfitsim,

we are so sorry to read that you obviously did not enjoy your stay at our Mercure Hotel Düsseldorf Hafen. Whatever went wrong during your stay, we do sincerely apologize for this. We offer 4 room categories in different sizes, colour schemes and locations in our Hotel. You had a standard room in the front part of the building. These can indeed sometimes be somewhat loud for noise sensitive guests.

Did you speak to our front desk staff to see if we would have been able to change your room to another location ?

Of course if you prefer more traditional hotels, we might indeed not be the right choice, since we have recently designed all our rooms in a modern and more trendy style.

But if you chose to come back to Düsseldorf, and to our Mercure Hotel Düsseldorf Hafen, we would be very pleased to show you the other roomtypes.

Thank you again for your time to rate us, even if it was not to our favour this time.

best regards

First of all - excellent beds! We actually wanted to sleep in the bed instead of going shopping in the morning :) Else, the service is good. Not the most centrally located hotel, but that didn't matter too much for us.

We booked this hotel through a well known cheap holiday website that offers a blindfold hotel policy where the name and location of the hotel become known to you after payment. The risk payed off, we loved this hotel!

As two Brits on holiday in Germany for the first time, this hotel was lovely. Once the staff realised we were English, they were helpful and polite, apart from one member answering the phone whilst checking us in, we would stay again.

The location suited us down to the ground, the tram stops (704 & 709 from outside the main station) were very close and the S-bhan train station on the bridge above was extremely useful. To tram to Alstadt you need to change at Graf-Adolf-Plaz, but once you get your head around the layout of the city, you can see this is no real bother. As a tourist the best thing to do is to go to the Tourist Information and buy a Welcome Card. They start at €9 for 24hrs (going up to 72hrs) and allow you use of every mode of transport in the city, as well as reduced or free entry to certain attractions. If you buy one of these at the Sky Train in the airport (like we did) then you MUST validate it using one of the little stamping machines on the transport. There is one of these machines next to the Sky Train ticket machine. If you don't validate, it's a €1000 fine.

The room was bright, clean and welcoming with a lovely shower. The bed was so comfy we kept coming back for power naps before hitting up Alstadt for the evening! The trams meant there was road noise, but unless you're and exceptionally light sleeper, these won't bother you. I loved the fact there was an iron, kettle and hairdryer in the room making it more like a home from home.

As we had booked room-only, I cannot review the food, and we were put off by the extra charge of €18 each, per day, if we wanted breakfast, and so found cheaper food in town. We went to the bar once and the beer was good and the staff were polite, with the prices being fairly average for that if the town. About £3.50/pint, slightly cheaper if you drank the local stuff in town.

Overall, a lovely stay that was just one positive experience of many on our trip to Düsseldorf, we will be back.

Dear Ellen,

thank you so much that you took so much time to rate our Mercure Hotel Düsseldorf Hafen so well here on Tripadvisor. We do highly appreciate that and have passed on all your comments to our Team.
You made a comment about a receptionist taking a phonecall while checking you in. We would like to say that most hotels in our category do not have a seperate phone operator, so that all reception staff members have to serve customers on the phone and at the reception at the same time. Usually this works well and we do apoligize if this was not the case with yourself.

Thank you also for explaining the public transport system to other readers so well. Fortunately the fine for driving without a valid ticket or not validating it, is not so high as you mention ;-)

We are happy that you found our rooms so comfortable and we are indeed also very proud of our exceptional bedding which usually cannot be found in hotels of our standard.
Too bad that you did not try our breakfast here at the Mercure Düsseldorf Hafen which is another highlight of our hotel that you unfortunately missed. The price of €18 is very well within average or even lower than comparable hotels in our area and competitive set..
But we are glad you experienced our bar and compared it positively with places in town.

We would be very happy to have you as our guest at the Mercure Hotel Düsseldorf Hafen again very soon. Next time, you would obviously have to book through our Website since the place you booked your first stay, does not allow you to choose your favorite hotel.
You will see that, especially during weekends, our rates are very attractive and some of them might even include the breakfast.

Thank you again for your time
