Great atmosphere; great food, and simply done.

Huge portions, with great service.

Lommerzheim is a must, well worth the walk over the Hohenzollern Bridge.

Just go there!

According to reviews in tripadvisor we decided to go there. We went there at 4:15 pm, the restaurant was closed and a large number of people waiting outside, at 4:30 doors opened and the croud rushed in. We couldn't find any empty table to sit and we were told that the earliest we could get a table after 2 hours. I asked for reservation and they said they accept reservation for 4:30 so we booked for the next day. Next day we were there at 4:30 and a shared table with two guys from Cologne was given to us.
As you sit on your chair they bring you special beers in small 200 ml glasses and just as you finish it it is imediately replaced with another one, the famous food is the pork cotelet with french fries, and yes! It is really worth the pain!!! , the portions are real tasty and huge and you can hardly finish it. We left there at 6:30 .
I will definitely go there whenever I return to Cologne.

If you like pork, beer and a rustic, friendly atmosphere, then this is a place you have to visit. I've been to Cologne twice in the past 5 months and have been to the Lommerzheim 3 times; and it gets better with each visit. The beer is wonderful and it just keeps coming. No one goes thirsty here. The food is "off the hook" great … nothing fancy, just great! Their specialty, a huge double pork chop, is crispy on the outside and amazingly juicy on the inside. It comes with a “melt in your mouth” potato salad, or fries or a great pumpernickel roll. You can add fried onions at no extra charge. I did … they’re scrumptious.

The waiters are fun, friendly and speak English. As in most of Cologne, folks will share their table with you. Just go to an empty seat, point, smile and you’re in. Or, if seats there are empty at your table, plan to have guests. It is always crowded, and naturally so … IT’S THAT GOOD!!! Most of the patrons are locals unless there’s a conference going on at the Koelnmesse, a gigantic exposition center close by.

Best of all, to say it’s affordable would be an understatement. On our last visit my wife and I consumed two pork chop dinners, drank 10 beers and had the time of our life chatting with the local folks and just having fun, all for 38 euros!

Lommerzheim is located in the Deutz section of Cologne and is easily accessible by train and underground. However after a meal like this, you may want to consider walking back to your hotel or apartment.

Great place, if staying in the Hyatt definitely visit here, 5mins walk round the back of the Hyatt in a residential area. All local people, we were offered a seat on a table with some locals and he gave us some of his food! We went to watch a concert and on our return we went here to eat, they serve until fairly late, we ate at 11pm, midweek. Be prepared for standing unless your mega early like 5pm!
Highly Recommend!
