First night in cologne arrived very late and needed a quick bite to eat so decided to stop here. Not the most warm and pleasant interior but we thought it would be ok. The food was fine and service was fast. The disappointment came went we went to pay and were questioned if Scottish people didn't tip, we were just about to and when we explained this we were told by the extremely rude waiter to just keep it because we looked like we need it (the tip) more than him! There was really no need for this at all as we intended to tip on our way out and even if we didn't Im not sure that this would have justified the verbal abuse. Disappointing end to the first night to say the least, but must say the rest of Cologne has been lovely and the people very pleasant. In summary you could get just as good food (if not better) elsewhere without the unjustified verbal tongue lashing!

We last ate here 2 years ago and were totally satisfied with our experience. This time it was a total disappointment. We were served only 2 Kolsch each in over an hour. My Halve Hahn was fine but how hard is it to serve cheese and a bread roll. My husband ordered Schlachteplatte and was totally underwhelmed, the Blutwurst was runny and didn't taste right and everything was buried under a mound of sauerkraut as if they had forgotten about it and just thrown it on top as an after thought. Our waiter was totally miserable too. The place wasn't busy so perhaps that's an indication of it's decline. I would say avoid unless they get their act together.

Massive place with bench type seating. Ordered first beer and thumbed through menu. Went for 1/4 metre of sausage with fried potatoes and cabbage on side. 5 mins later was drinking superb Kolsh beer and working my way through the sausage. Food was OK but wouldn't win any gastronomic prizes.
All in all a 'one off' experience which was a must do in Cologne. Can't imagine I'd do it again though.

Sion is the oldest brewery in Cologne, so if you would like to taste a typical beer of the region called kölsch is a must to go to this place while in Cologne. The place seem more hidden than other breweries in Cologne. It was established in 1311. The food is typical german food and is served in big portions. The food is very tasty and fresh. You won´t have any difficulty to get a table no matter how many people you are with, the staff is very friendly and also do speak English. The place is big inside. There you will get only Sion Kölsch, don´t make the heresy and terrible mistake to ask for another type of beer (specially brand beer). They will put you as many beers you can drink, once you glass is getting empty. Is up to you to count them and also to turn off the once you are done. Don´t leave beer not drank on the table and just afterwards request not to be counted on the bill as it won´t work.
The value mostly their tradition of drinking kölsch while in Cologne. The glass is also thinner as the beer is served colder. While paying, you can also purchase one of these glasses as a souvenir, which is fully packed for travellers.Asking is easy: Bitte ein Kölsch bitte!
Prost!

We ate here for lunch one day and the soup I had was delicious. The waiters were friendly and fairly quick to get us drinks and take out order.
