“An oasis in a great city”
Reviewed October 31, 2010

From checking-in I know I was going to like this hotel. The reception staff offered a map & pointed out where the hotel was located & nearby points of interest, shopping & suggested sightseeing. Room was well laid out & had all amenities. However it was an internal room with the windows opening onto a large oval internal void. Whilst this meant there was no view it was very quiet. Loved the room, amenities & even the live feed from the hotel restaurant kitchen on the TV. The only annoying thing was the lack of wifi in the rooms. Something hard to come by in Europe was the tea/coffee making facilities. They also had a "shop" off the foyer whee there was a great range of snacks & drinks. If travelling by train it is only about 150 meters from the Cologne Main station

This hotel is a few minutes walk from the station in the opposite direction to the cathederal and town centre. It is a good location if arriving by train and cologne is fairly small so it is easy to get around on foot from this hotel.

The hotel was quiet when we were there - we were the only ones in the bar, but it was worth it for the great service and recommended local beer.

The Marriot Cologne, a short walk from the train station, just hit a sweet spot. I travel a bit on business and tend to stay at Marriots. This one ranks as one of the most comfortable. The rooms are decent size with a nice bathroom. The location is excellent. In comparison with the overpriced hotels in Paris (okay different city different country.), the quality to price ratio is great.

Very nice hotel. The beds and linens were welcome every evening. Nice upstairs lounge on 6th floor with good breakfast and appetizers. A short walk to the Dom but not far. I only wish they would give conditioner (you get just shampoo) and Marriott really needs to change their pens. Those Bic pens are annoying. Trivia bit: Book of Mormon in German - interesting!

Stayed here for 2 nights during a business trip.
Liked:
- close to the cathedral
- excellent sheets and towels
- modern bathroom (though took a while to figure out how to get the shower to work)
- tea/coffee in room
- excellent breakfast with many great choices - breads, jams, juice, fruit, yogurt, hot items, cold cuts, etc., etc. included in the room price

Did not like:
- issues with check in l(after a red-eye from DC, could not check in until late afternoon/evening) ed to having to shower in the fitness center that only has a communal shower with no shower curtains, windows into the gym, and showers that turn off by themselves every few seconds;
- issues with bag storage - could not get bag back when misplaced ticket despite offer to describe everything in it; finally convinced staff when pointed out laptop inside had my last name on it
- could not get internet to work despite having followed instructions

A Bank Holiday Weekend Break to the Rhineland for some culture, coffee and cake.

In my opinion, this hotel is close to perfection. The hotel is literally a five minute walk from the main Railway Station, close to the main museums and of course, the Dom. The room was immaculate, the staff amenable and courteous, and the breakfast, sumptuous.

The only minor quibble was the room air conditioning which seemed under powered to cope with a warm evening but this aside, the hotel rates highly.

I stayed at the Dom hotel and Excelsior hotel before, but Marriott gets a better rating for me it has everything plus its cozy and has friendly staff, if you have a car its much easily reachable with a big parking, excellent breakfast with all what you dream of, also excellent executive lounge, off course the walking distance from hotel to Hohe street is a bit longer than previous hotels but still its a short walk.
