The Marriott was a very nice hotel near the city center. The staff when we checked in and checked out was incredibly friendly. More so than any other hotel we stayed at on this trip. The room was clean, and very comfortable. This was also the first room we stayed at this trip which had a hot water pot to make tea (which I sooooo appreciated).

The bar was very nice and modern. The staff was friendly here as well.

We had just stayed at the Hyatt a few nights before. Overall, we liked the rooms at the Hyatt slightly better (better layout, more room) but really, really appreciated the staff’s helpfulness and friendliness here at the Marriott. I would happily stay here again.

Just a side note: 5 star hotels in Germany are not the same as the US or other places. This hotel is on par with a 4 star hotel in the US.

Stayed for one night during a city-break. (a visit to the Christmas Market)
The location of the hotel is very good. Just a 5 minute walk from the Dom.
Parking of the hotel is actually a public parking. If this parking would be plenty there's another parking just across the street. We had to park there and we only paid 15€ for a day ticket. (the hotel website states 25€/day for the other parking) Both parkings have the same rate according to the reception so I suppose the rate on the website is wrong or the other parking is actually
cheaper.

Check-in was really smooth. Staff are very helpful and kind. They all spoke very good English as well.

The hotel room was really nice and the doors are very heavy so you hear absolutely no noises from the corridor. We had no bath in our room (std. room) but a really good working shower.

The hotel was completely booked and there were long lines for check-out around noon. Breakfast was pretty busy as well. Bfast was rather expensive at 27€ but there was an extensive selection. The price didn't stop people from having bfast, the entire restaurant was full.

If we come back to Cologne we would certainly consider this hotel again.

Had a great time over Christmas in Cologne. The hotel was very friendly and a great base to explore Cologne. The room was very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The bed was a delight after a long day of sight seeing. It was a 5 star room and really quiet which I appreciate. My only complaint is the crazy wifi policy. Any stranger can walk in off the street and get free wifi in the lobby. A paying guest has to pay to use wifi in their room. Marriott has to realise that free wifi is now the norm and if you want to attract business or leisure customers you have to provide it

Arrived for a two night stay at this hotel after a 5 hr bus journey. We were well received by the hotel staff . The room was excellent . Well laid out , warm , clean and comfortable with a first class bathroom and shower .This hotel room had the lowest background noise of any hotel in which we have stayed , the quietness of the room was first class. The hotel was ideally situated from our point of view , being a short walk from the railway station and city centre, with most of the Xmas markets within easy walking distance Evening meals at the hotel bistro proved to be up to the same standard as the hotel-very good and more than ample in quantity with service to match. The staff were friendly and attentive. My wife and I were impressed with this hotel and would go again .

Room Tip: Rooms facing the inner grassed roof of the reception and conference area will be the quietest.

First time visitor to Cologne in between Christmas and New Year - found the Marriott to be a very good choice of hotel. The location is excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. We didn't take the breakfast (at 27€ each!) but because the railway station is so close there's plenty to choose from. Overall a great base to explore the city from.

My girlfriend and I stayed here three nights over new years and had an impeccable time. Hotel staff was very kind, helpful, and courteous, the hotel was very clean, seems like it's quite new or recently refurbished, everything was modern and elegant. Thanks to Gold status we had a 6th floor "executive" room, which was spacious and comfortable, and access to the lounge, which was quite excellent -- nice breakfast, and decent small plates and open bar in the evenings. Some of the "dinner" selections weren't so great, and the desserts were uneven, but we were still able to enjoy.
The gym was surprisingly spacious, several of each type of cardio machine and an ok assortment of weights (though no tower). Very nice sauna section with two different saunas and showers, though it was in very heavy use and, given that it's Europe, very much naked and coed.
Location of the hotel was actually perfect, two short blocks from the train station but on the other side of the station from the busy downtown area (where most hotels are, and where the cathedral, churches, shopping etc are), keeping it quieter and more peaceful.
I would definitely always choose this hotel if I return to Cologne. Very impressed! (also at the low rate I was able to get through the Marriott site).
Only (strange) negative: they don't replenish your shower products until you've truly emptied them out. We had to ask the cleaning staff for more shampoo as we were almost out, and by the time we'd showered that night, we were definitely going to be out. first time I've ever stayed at a hotel where they didn't just put new ones out when you'd broken one of them open.

Good location, good facilities but unfriendly with officious systems.

First at check in. Debit card cannot be used on check in so had to pay cash for meals and bar. Hardly convenient!

Bar, good food and drink but staff quite cold. Hard work.

Breakfast. Full examination before allowed in to eat. Haven't they heard of computers?

All in all, I can't really recommend this place without a revamp of systems. Just too cold and unfriendly at present.
