“Absolutely lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

We spent three nights in Domstern hotel and enjoyed it from the very beginning. We felt very welcome, and got the city map and good tips on locations and what routes to take. The delicious cakes in the room was a wonderful surprise!

The hotel has a very good location close to the station. The street is pretty quiet and the windows good, so we slept really well in lovely silence. The room was beautiful and clean, and we just felt very good about it.

The best part was, however, the breakfast! Everything was fresh and tasted really good! There was so much to choose from, and we really appreciated all the details such as chillis with cream cheese and the portions of chocolate pudding. Every morning something new appeared and I miss the breakfast buffet already.

The staff was extremely friendly and they all seemed to love what they do. It is easy to recommend this hotel for everyone.

stayed 3 nights. a very easy walk from the station even for 2 of us on sticks. lucky as the building works outside the railway station meant no taxis from that side! steps up to get in but only 2 and the concierge helped with the bags as soon as we got to the doorstep. small but comfortable, small lift, small room, small breakfast room but excellent value. my elderly mother was enchanted by the lift (Schindler's Lift!) which is beam activated - stroke the call button and it comes, and the lights in the room - you put your electronic door card in a slot just inside the door and the lights come on, they can all be switched off from the bedside so you don't have to get out of bed again and one of those touch-lamps on the desk. she wants some at home now....anyway, the room was small but fine for our needs - just room for the bed, small but perfectly adequte ensuite, and a small wardrobe with safe , a desk and chair. the 'wall-hung' TV was in fact stuck on top of the wardrobe, and we couldn't get it to work even if we had wanted to lie at a difficult angle to watch. the beds were very comfortable, temperature fine, it was clean, you get a welcome mini-toblerone for some reason and a piece of cake. in common with most of the hotels, i gather, there are no tea/coffee making facilities. and the street itself was pleasantly quiet. aside from a little door-banging and noise from other residents as usual, no other noise. there is a concierge up to 10pm, and you can use your room-card to get in after that. The breakfast was lovely, though recommend getting down earlyish, or there will be nothing but german blackbread, which tastes like cardboard. there was bread for toasting, boiled eggs, usual meats cheeses, cereals, yogurts, fruit, cereal bars for later snacking various evil looking pickles and meaty things (sorry i'm a veggie, and my stomach's not at its best in the morning when faced with unidentifiable Things) , which my mother filled her plate with and snacked to the last morsel. the assistant offered coffee of various kinds - cappuccino americano etc and refilled when asked, and offered scrambled eggs with or without bacon which actually was more like an omelette and very nice too. a bit of refurbishment going on while we were there, and it looks very much 'everyone mucks in to do everything' as we seemed to see the same people doing all the jobs - however, it was clean, comfortable, there was help if needed and the position, given the peace and quiet, is unbeatable - less than 5 minutes from the Dom. walk straight up the road a few minutes, cross to the Bahnhof, walk straight throught the Bahnhof to the other end, and there's the Dom and the rest

Room Tip: it's in a quiet street, only noise from other guests

This is a great hotel - great service, great location, great room! The room and bathroom were really good a size and the breakfast buffet had a great selection too. I received a very warm welcome on arrival and they were extremely helpful. I don't quite understand how they can charge so little for what they offer, but am not complaining.

Stayed 3 nights 26 - 29 March 2013. The best value for money hotel we have stayed in over 15 years of travel in many countries worldwide. A small hotel in a very quiet side street in a wonderful location right bang in the city centre just five minutes walk from the main railway station and underground station. Large spacious double room and bathroom, clean and well appointed. Friendly and helpful front desk staff with good english. Great breakfast with wonderful variety. Special mention for the nice lady who prepared the breakfasts who did the eggs whatever way you wanted. Excellent! Not forgetting the complimentary chocolate and cake in the room on arrival. Ten out of ten for everything.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room on the top floor but I have no doubt they were all equally good

Nice hotel and location for the price. Staff was very friendly and spoke English well. Check in was a little confusing as we had reserved a room with Hotel Domstern but were put in a "apartment" acroos form the the Domstern called at a place named Domspitzen. I assume the ownership is the same, if you stay at the Domstern you eat breakfast (included in the price of your stay) at the Domspitzen. None the less it was a great experience. Our hotel room really was an old apartment that had been converted. You had two keys, one for the main entrance to the building and one for the room. It was a little taste of what it might be like to live in the area. Room was very clean and had everything you would need including a small kitchen. Wi-Fi was questionable. The hotel had put a repeater in the room but I could not maintain a consistant connection unless I went to the lobby. The breakfast was excellent and service was as well. If you are staying in Cologne this hotel is the best deal in my opinon. But If your looking for the Waldorf experience this is not the place.
